Hey there
ok, yesterday my phone lines were down and after they came back on my PC doesnt want to stay on for more than 20 mins after logging in or even as I press the ok button to login it just shuts down and reboots. The phone lines arent the problem because the 2 other PCs in my house are working fine. The day before, I updated my video drivers so this could be the problem because it works fine in safe mode when they arent being used.

I have cleaned the inside of my tower so it isnt dust and have tried looking for an error message but there isnt any.

If anyone can help me I would appreciate it.

96% Sure it's Overheating.
Download SpeedFan and open it up and monitor your temps up until the computer shuts down. If any temperature gets into the "Holy fuck!" range, let us know. Better yet, let your computer run for about 10 minutes then take a screenshot of the temps and post it here.

Download SpeedFan here: http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

That's what I thought when my computer was overheating.
Where is the tower located? Is it under a desk? In a tight space?

Zombie Hunter

its on top of a desk next to a wall with about 4 inchs of space between it and the wall

Well, usually PC's will give you a Blue Screen during system failures and ask YOU to reboot your system. This is usually the case except for in overheating, where the system usually just reboots automatically.
Maybe if we disable Auto Reboot on System Failure, a blue screen will appear and hopefully give you some information as to why it was shutting down.
Go to Start > Right-Click "My Computer" > Click Properties > Advanced Tab > Under "Startup and Recovery" click Settings.
Under settings UNCHECK "Automatically Restart" and don't touch anything else. Then wait for your computer to shutdown and (hopefully) a Blue Screen will appear instead. Write down whatever it tells you and put it on here.

EDIT: Oh shit, you have Vista. If that above thing doesn't make sense, use this:

Click on Start and then Control Panel.
Tip: In a hurry? Type system in the search box after clicking Start. Choose System from the list of results and then skip to Step 4.
Click on the System and Maintenance link.
Note: If you're viewing the Classic View of Control Panel, you won't see this link. Simply double-click on the System icon and proceed to Step 4.
Click on the System link.
In the task pane on the left, click the Advanced system settings link.
Locate the Startup and Recovery area and click on the Settings button.
In the Startup and Recovery window, locate and uncheck the check box next to Automatically restart.

Well, I really suggest you download SpeedFan and take a look at your temperatures, just because your whole case feels cool doesn't mean that one piece of hardware isn't overheating (in my case it was the CPU).

How much wattage does your power supply have? If you don't know, there should be a sticker on the side of the PSU telling you how much. You might have to open up your case.

I had the same problem with my old computer. I talked to my friend who went to high school and college and studied computers, he said 1 of the 2 reasons is the problem.

1. You have a virus that shuts down your PC. He said he had a virus that did that.

2. It's overheating.

Either 1 of those.

This was my first thought after seeing that it probably isn't overheating. Trojan virus... they are usually brought on my something the user clicks on, like a bad link. Check your task manager and make sure all of the .exe's you see running are legit. If you're unsure of one just google it to see what it is. If one isn't legit, end the process tree immediately and put your av to work asap.

Hopefully you're not still having this problem since it has been a few days since you first posted.

its back again T_T
more blue screens randomly, even in safe mode. Last time it was the power supply and the PC "expert" just put in a new more powerful one which fixed it but its back again :(
It tends to happen when my computer is doing something stressful like loading a new map in BF:BC2 or other games, streaming videos or loading new web pages.
any ideas?

Download Speedfan

And your RAM I asked for 11-08-2009

Edit: Post your specs, shit.

Zombie Hunter
03-06-2010, 02:31 PM
The RAM might be the reason, last time my memory was 5.9/5.9 according to windows
but now it has gone down to 5.0, maybe the guy did something with my RAM

I'll get speed fan now and post specs

Boojangels

I'd assume the blue screen error you are receiving is a memory error, which is your RAM.

Task manager up in this penis and get dat RAM usage. Hoo doogy.
