Super Smash TV for the SNES is a game I still play and enjoy today. I think if the theme of the game had been zombies as opposed to a futuristic game show (set in the year 1,999!), it would have made an excellent precursor to Left 4 Dead.
For those of you unfamiliar with it, the concept is simple: it's a game show where the contestants are given a gun and then thrown into an arena where hundreds of guys with baseball bats pour out of the doors to beat you to death. You have to stave off the masses by mowing them down with your gun.
It's straightforward and very arcade-like (and was actually a great game to play in the arcade) and reminds me very much of Left 4 Dead. In the later levels, it gets insanely difficult, with mutants and robots and tanks and power-ups.
Have there been any similar games since?
