Heading off for the first part of basic training in the New Zealand Territorial Forces tomorrow for about a month, (28 days to be exact.) Four weeks of ridiculously early mornings, ridiculously exhausting exercises, ridiculously stressful dicipline and the ridiculous notion of having short hair and having to shave frequently, (do not fucking like.)

Anyway, wish me luck! Know that if I get shot it'll probably be by a superior officer rather than an accident from one of my recruit peers.

Good news is I finally get my hands on something other than the F88 Austyer. This time they're giving us some personal time with the M72 rocket launcher, the C9 Light Machinegun, the M203 Grenade Launcher... what else... oh and grenades, flashbangs etc. etc.

So that'll be fun.

Hey Tyr how was training? Are you done for some time now, or do you have to go back in a couple of weeks or something?

That's me fully done with basic. Training never ends of course but yeah, I'm no longer a Ballbag Recruit, I'm now a Muppet Private. Basically it means now I can go to PDT and eventually deployment as well as be considered for promotion and be able to take part in a number of different courses. In two years I'll even be elegable for SAS selection although I don't think I'll go for it, basically 'cause I don't look as bad-ass as this guy (http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f266/Tyferra/WillieApiata.jpg)

Aye, the hat is awesome. Most people bitch about theirs 'cause they were issued the wide-brim kind of hat but my batallion is awesome and issued me a bucket J-hat.

The gun I'm carrying is an LSW C9 "Minime". I was given the role of Alpha Gunner #1 on that day which was kind of lame since I preferred my role as Grenadier with my M203-equipped Steyr.
