While there could be some merit in what is stated, it speaks to me of a group of "intellectuals" with their heads stuck up their collective asses

It's not so far-fetched - but honestly people try too hard sometimes.
I don't think there's much point IF Portal reinvents the genre politically or not. There's so many titles to prove FPS isn't shallow and "phallic" like they often hint at. This one especially.

Wow, I can't imagine how bored someone must've been to write that.

I stopped reading after the portal was compared to a reproductive organ... and the character going through it as a birthing process. Its possible that it was infact the creators goal to symbolize that but still, that in my opinion is kind of rediculous, its a video game not a statement.

I stopped reading after the portal was compared to a reproductive organ

You mean this?

"A psychoanalytic reading would likely conclude that the portal is an image of the female sex organs: oval and receptive, and also a metaphorical birth canal through which the protagonist is constantly being born into new trials."

I ROFLed.

This is by far the funniest thing I've read all day.

Edit:

You should read it all the way thru. It's hilarious.

"Another non-traditional character, the Weighted Companion Cube, represents male identity in Portal. Though it is an inanimate object, the Cube is referred to as an idealized companion. The Cube is used to hold down giant buttons that open doors around the Enrichment Center, and features pink hearts emblazoned on each side. The Cube must be carried around one entire level, and is burdensome despite its usefulness. GLaDOS encourages Chell to develop emotional attachment to the Cube, despite its strictly utilitarian function of holding down buttons. Ultimately, Chell incinerates the Weighted Companion Cube, symbolizing a mental unburdening from the need for approval from a father figure."

Honestly, you could probably say the same things about eating a pop-tart for breakfast (if you could raise your bullshit tolerability levels to the required amount)

Its psycho-babble bullshit, this is why psychology gets such a bad rep as a "soft" science.

It was still fun to read.

This seems like one of those things that the devs would read and probably just go

"Uh, huh...alright."

Yeah I would love to see portals creators comment on that.

"Uhh sex organs... I dont think so, its just a fucking portal that looks really cool"
