Played the demo, still didn't finish it though, taking my time with it :-)
The demo gives quite a lot for just a demo. It starts you off with a couple of videos, telling you a bit of the story n' all. Then your little home town or Witcher chill spot (W/E you wanna call it cause I'm not sure exactly what it is for the Witchers :-P) gets attacked by a bunch of bandits and mages from some group there. You soon get thrown into some nice action against some bandits and soon see that it's like any other RPG game with the clicking on the enemies n' all that, but the cool thing is that you don't just button mash your way through everything. In The Witcher you have to time your clicks or you won't be able to do any flashy moves. There's also different styles of fighting with your sword, which are "Heavy, Fast, & Group" which are pretty simple and explain them selves. The combos for each style are all cool and unique. The way Geralt swings his sword around and hits his enemies looks nice and smooth, and all the cool effects with the sword swinging looks nice and the blood splatter looks good.

Also the way of leveling up is real simple. When you first take a look at it, it looks pretty wicked weird :-P. But, when you use it, you see how easy it is.

Don't wanna spoil it too much, so right after some little battles you get thrown into a little village and start to really enjoy the game :-D..err demo.. You get in bar fights for cash and start flirting with hot pix lated chicks with big perky breasts and old time accents :-D it gets funny at times.. I was in an Inn and I was looking for some one to fight when some poor old fool decided to throw some words at me :P lol he said "Your mother sucks dwarf cock!" (SRLSY!) gave him a good whooping. Besides that you get to do quite a few quests which could keep you busy for a little while.
I'm looking forward to getting this game <:-3

1.2 patch has just been released.
http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/50485
They have improved the loading and save times, which was the only drawback to the game when I played it. There is now no reason in the world to not own this game.

Played the demo today... at first, I hated it. Now... I'm kinda loving it lol. Load times are a bit of a pain, but if they are fixed in the game, thats great. Combat... I was hoping for hack & slash... its a bit different, but its pretty good. Love having to time my attacks and such.
I really hadn't even given this game any thought until the demo.. but now I'm torn.. which to buy?
Crysis
UT3
Gears of War
Call of Duty 4
The Witcher
I really don't know now...

Get the one that isn't an FPS.
The best single player on there is The Witcher, and since this is a thread about The Witcher, you should buy it.

Patch 1.2 is out and improving loading times a lot. The Game is the best RPG since Gothic II and Oblivion IMHO. Partially underrated mostly because many magzine tested their versions without day one patch that was available at the time of the release, if you like RPG´s with complex, immersive storylines you will like it.
If your searching for another diablo clone don´t even bother to take a look at you would be disappointed.

Im picking this up as soon as I can. To be honest, it's a leap of faith for me. I wasn't too sold on the demo, like I thought I would've been, but I can tell the game is really good.
Now... why the fuck do European copies get an uncensored version?
squerl
12-21-2007, 03:52 PM
Because it's made by Europeans and they hate us.
hooray for zombies

There's a torrent to change the US version content to euro version content. Don't have a link, but with a little searching it should be findable

Censored? When I played the demo I heard quiet a few things that should have been censored, lol :P
Like a guy that said "I fucked a she-elf once." in the middle of a conversation with another guy
Is it just the demo that isn't censored ? :-(
hooray for zombies

Just got it, is 1.2 the latest patch?
Also, anything I need to know before I get in?
:)
Thick manual, nice case.
Edit: Ugh, it would seem it doesn't want to install. The first try I got a blue screen and the computer restarted itself, now the autoplay thing won't pop up. I just went into the disk and started the .exe
Cross your fingers that this won't crash again.

Third times the charm, now I gotta download patch. Unlike before when I was downloading (and computer crashed) theres a line up now:(
Forced to install it on default folder (Program Files) which i dont normally do, but oh well.
Edit: Bah, this game crashes often on my PC, during load times. I was even lucky enough to have my PC forced to restart... yay. im going to check if it saved close to when i crashed, if not it should... I hope the same thing doesnt happen with this game like STALKER (crashed a lot, impossible to progress)

There was also a hotfix from microsoft which is needed for the Witcher. Seems to adress an issue thats similar to your description. Maybe you haven´t tried it yet

Holy fuck.
I just played through Chapter 1&2... in the middle of chapter two I lost the ability to save my game. I figured, restart the game, the last autosave was a while back but still.
So I do just that, ALL my saves in Chapter 2 were gone... My last save was before entering the town IN CHAPTER ONE!
Shit... Anyway, it'd be too tedious to play though all that again, I hate doing that kind of thing when an RPG messes up (happened a lot in STALKER [messes up that is])
Pretty sure this is the shortest time I've ever played a game... one day. Im done with it for now, maybe in a while ill come back to it. And if I do, i start from scratch.
Although I bought this game to consume time, this is no where near what I had in mind >.< gotta wait for ZP:S now.

From The Witcher Forums:
The Witcher may exhaust virtual address space when running on 32-bit Windows Vista. Microsoft has released a hotfix that addresses this problem. Please download the hotfix from the following location when playing the game on 32-bit Windows Vista: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940105
Worked out for me.

OK, so the Witcher 2 is pretty damn good so far, and I can tolerate the movement being only walk or run with no analogue control over speed, but the person who decided all NPCs should walk slower than I run but faster than I walk needs to burn in Gaben's anus until the end of time.
