Unlockables in L4D?

But frog... the achievement system is the hippest thing on the 360 scene. It's not about beating the game, it's about showing everyone online that you did.

Thought i'd dig up a thread from yester-year.

Seeing as TF2 now has unlockables, I think it's probably the way forward for new Valve games so maybe even for L4D after initial release. Agree?

I agree that there should be unlockable in most games. I think that achievement systems are the lazy route that developers are taking these days cuz you just gotta put a trigger in that says "congratulations, you killed your 1,000,000th zombie" instead of thinking up clever 'prizes' and doing the extra developing to get it in. (IMO best secrets were in the 1080 snowboarding game for N64, panda-suit and penguin board combination ruled). Having gone on that whole rant maybe this game isn't the correct style for unlockables and it would ruin the experiece, but after you beat it 'seriously' for the 100th time its fun to run through the game wearing a clown costume or having the zombies explode into confetti. just my opinion cuz im bored....

Achievements are fun and all, but when 360 gamers become total achievement whores, that is not cool. I have like 16448 or something gamerscore, but because I bought my 360 a long time ago and played A LOT of games. For most games I have only like 100 points unless they're games I own. Some people have around 40000 because they rent a game, even if its absolute ass, just for the achievements.

On to the topic! I would love to see some unlockables. Different play modes maybe(no boss infected, realistic ammo, headshots only), something to keep me playing the game even though it will have AMAZING replayability.

They should have unlockable costume sets, like the team is different animals, different super-heroes, or the whole team wears bikinis, even the guys. I would laugh my ass off to see Bill deliver a oneliner while wearing a two-piece lol.
