Hi Conde Mafias,

Thanks for your feedback. We plan on making extensive use of the Steam Community in Left 4 Dead, and we are exploring ways we can do so both before and after we release the game.

Hello, I'm a fan of L4D since the trailer was released, and since then i wanted this more and more, i a question for you:

Will it be possible to add ''Unlockables'' to the game like they did on Call of duty 4 and others?, for example, with the new steam community there's this 'Rewards', let's say that you make one of them, will you get anything new from doing it?, If not, this could be a good feature to add when the game it's done, and you will be able to get new weapons and complements for them, I think this gives more hours of play.

I know you're trying to make the best game possible for the release, so i animate you to keep yourself at ''The foot of the cannon'' (Google translate, aggh)

Signed, CondeMafias.

Bye!

Just wanted you, guys, to know about this.

Thanks conde, I'd really love to see in game achievements having some sort of in game effect. Sounds like that might be an option still.

It'd be cool if you got stuff to customize your guns and characters... but that's just me :)

this would be a good way to silence those people complaining about weapon variety, just let them unlock new skins for existing weapons as they move through the achievements

Mmmm, new infected....Though I think it should be noted that iin this particular email, they didn't say what they were going to use steam FOR. Only that they planned to "make extensive use of it". Not that I doubt their ability ot deliver awesomeness.

I dare someone to get the "insane difficulty completion" achievement when it comes out.

My fictional achievement involves completing ALL the chapters on INSANE DIFFICULTY!

Also, can pick up a gnome by pressing action at him, but you can't use any weapons when carrying him, and you have to get him to the end of the insane-difficulty chapters level-by-level. XD

I'm not a big fan of unlockable stuff in FPS, it makes things way to unbalanced.
Besides it kind of patronizes players "Oh good you played the game for a total of 100 hours here's a cookie." I don't want the main reason I'm playing a game to be just to unlock stuff that I should have already had from the start. And this game will be so much fun that it just won't need a gimmick like that.

I really doubt this is what most people want. I don't want better weapons or boss infected but alternatives would be nice. It gives you a goal and something to work for outside the individual rounds and makes use of the new steam achievement system. Costumes or even unlockable Infected would be fun, so long as they simply remain alternatives. It's definitely a fine line though.

The Steam achievements are fine they are just small meaningless goals that are just there. But unlockable stuff is what is on topic in this thread. This is a Value game we don't have to compete or buy to get a new weapon or item, they will simply give everyone it for free making a very balanced and fair system.

Yet so many people go for these achievements. Wonder why?

This has NOTHING to do with the achievements, I like the achievements but I don't like unlockables in a FPS's!

Dontleave you have a very bad habit of reading only what you want to read and taking things out of contexts.

You miss the point Dontleave's making totally

everyone likes goals, the bf franchise didnt survive on gameplay alone imo

its the same exact basic thing yet theres 3 games for it just changing the date with huge success (bad company exempt from this as i wouldnt know) and i enjoy bf2 occasionally still after 2-3 years of it. I cant say that for any other game particularly, most of this is down to a sense of achievement you get from games with unlocks.

Achievements in steam i find are useless in so far as the sense of achievement is rarely there, most are far too simplistic to brag about and give nothing.
