I'm glad I forked out for my Q6600 now.
Do you think AMD will always now being playing catch up, especially considering the problems highlighted at the end of the report.

Yeah, AMD has been way behind since the Intel Conroe processors were released. Extremely well priced and crazy overclocking potential, the only way AMD could compete was dropping the prices on its processors by large amounts. It looks like again, AMD falls short technologically and will have to resort to better prices to gain any share.
In one way, it's great for us consumers because we get real cheap and awesome processors, but on the other hand, if AMD falls too far behind, Intel will slow down its innovation (possibly, though they have been sticking to their tick tock strategy pretty good so far), which would be bad. Same thing goes with AMD/ATI in the graphics ring, ATI really needed to step out with a winner with the recent HD2900 line but it fell short so had to resort to pricing, and now with the 8800GT, too bad.
Competition is great for us, as long as all sides stay in business!

I think that its just teething problems. Intel really got the drop on them with the core 2 duo processors which are awesome, and better than anything AMD released to compete with.
AMD have adopted different architecture for their quad processors, which although aren't intel killers at the moment, they may get it right with their second generation of quad core processors...

Well. I'm sure AMD will dish out something more. I mean... if they can't, they're out of business, lol. I think they're just trying to get some quick cash by releasing a "beta" cpu. AMD knew exactly what they were bringing to the table.
I just hope they pull something together soon. I'm itching to get a quad-core. But not the early Phenoms.
