So how many people do you think will play Left4Dead?

Take into consideration URL (http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=stats&cc=US)

I'm hoping/guessing anywhere between Garrys Mod and Day of Defeat source: Between 4,500 and 5,000, with an initial player base of about 8,000

Day of Defeat: Source 6,543
Day of Defeat 5,004
Half-Life DeathMatch 3,422
Half-Life 2: Deathmatch 2,914
Garry's Mod 2,338

I don't think it'll have more players than TF2, But heres hoping I'm wrong :)

Well, it's amazing enough that cs 1.6 is still kicking butt. Not bad for a mod made in 1999. So I think that it will become the 3rd most popular game. That's sad too because cs is pretty boring. Got boring as soon as "I saw the light" and started playing BF2. Back in the day BF2 was good anyways.

BF2 is still good, hool. Haven't you tried project reality and Forgotten hopes 2 mods?

A lot... but a small player base can't be bad for us. Unless it's like ZP's.

No it's not. I have tried to play those mods and could'nt find any players. Also I heard that certain classes can driver certain vehicles. They also have that 1 bullet=death system.

I expect there to be approximately 2,000 active players on average at any one time.

Wow, numbers for CS:CZ are surprising to me, didn't know it was that popular.

From my experience with the game, I think it's a much more fun experience than any on that list. I think it's better designed, and a better choice for a group of friends to spend an hour and have a great time at.

That being said, CS/CSS/TF2 are all available to the millions of people that bought HL1/HL2, so even though I think L4D is a better game, it'd be unlikely to surpass those numbers. We'll see though, it depends on how Turtle Rock polishes the game, keeps updating and improving it, and marketing and pricing play a big factor as well. With the recent numbers on PC game sales vs X360, I'm hoping that L4D releases simultaneously on both systems, and that it sells well on the X360 to make Turtle Rock a lot of money :D

I'm really hoping that L4D gets its message out to the more "casual" group of gamers than those that play CS. CS is puzzling because it's a headache of a game, and the community there is so pissy to people who can't play good, and even then, competitive games are all about "haha u r noob" (I played with CAL-M teams so I know). We all need to do our best to help people get information on the game so people get interested, and continue to have an open community that plays the game for both fun and challenge, and I think it'll do well.

When did you get them, because there are tons of servers for them now. And yes project reality is certain classes drive vertain vechiles. A pilot cant drive a tank, and the one bullet system death is good once you get used to it.

I think there will be more. The whole niche of horror games AND coop games (not counting team vs team here) is currently filled by mods, and not everybody plays mods; so there should be a big empty space L4D will fill (in my heart <3 ;) j/k)

I think player numbers will be pretty average on release and slowly grow over time as more people realise what the games all about.

However, I'm not sure how friendly the L4D community will be to new players after a few months simply because of the amount of stress the game will place on each team.

I rarely see anyone use a shield in CZ...

L4D could get over populated for the amout of servers that will be running, because cs:s and them games have servers running up too 64 players at a time, while left4dead has only 8 as far as i know. But then again the majority of the servers on the source games are empty so it could even out.

mabye 5000 a day? probs more
