So yesturday I had to change a bunch of stuff on my laptop that basically resulted in an error (which is apparently very common with my type of laptop) that meant that any game that used Direct3D would fail on startup.

I'm not looking for fixes. The problem I have now is that I'm gonna have to wait about a week for the lackies down at some factory somewhere to go and send me the BIOS Firmware update I need to get my laptop back into working shape. Until then every single game I own on Steam (and beyond) does not work.

Except one.

Plants Versus Zombies. I reckon it's because it's a 2D game, so my request to you fine forum gentlemens and gentleladies is simple: post any good 2D games you can think of (or if you're more technically apt, any games that you know don't require Direct3D) for PC.

Mario
Prince of Persia
Another World
Lemmings
GTA 1
Space invanders
Legends of Zelda
Silver Surfer
Tetris
Pacman
Cannon Fodder
and more.

I would recommend - go and make "retro week!" All the games before... let's say cca 1995?

Now is the time to play Lucas Arts adventure games. Sam and Max specifically. Personally when I go retro, I go SNES.

Sam and Max: Culture Shock was the first game that came up with the error. Same goes for the entire series. There isn't a really old 2d version of it or something, is there?

Now you just made me die a little inside.

Not that I don't appreciate Telltales work, but its nothing compared to the writing and voice work of the original.

Was never a point & click person, so excuse my ignorance.

Played it for Xbox Arcade. Loved it. Shame it didn't have much replay value.

I was gonna say Roller Coaster Tycoon but that's not 2D. I don't know any 2D games lol. Well for now, atleast. Might do me some looking :).

Well what counts as 3D? Roller Coaster Tycoon really wasn't 3D. It was isometric, and everything looked 2D tbh.

I'm trying to think of some games...

This game is a browser game but it's very fun, very hard:

You could get the L4D 8bit if you haven't tried it, and I think Gang Garrison might work for you.

Then, of course, there's CAVE STORY. I love that game :P

Can't think of any more atm. I would say Survival Crisis Z but I'm almost completely sure that's 3D.

Oh yeah, you could also try Phun!

EDIT: I just realized that, unfortunately, Phun will most likely never be updated again since Algodoo came out. Maybe one day I will crumble and buy it, but for now I'm not sure it's worth it. I would never torrent it; the creators deserve the money for this great game :P
