You definitely want more RAM, 2GB would be great. One of the most important factors is your graphics card, but you didn't mention that. Which graphics card do you have?

That card is very poor, the rest of your computer (with a little more RAM, maybe just 512 more for a total of 1GB) should be fine. You can get a much better card for around $100, not sure how much you want to spend. The one thing you will need to know is what type of card your FX 5200 is. It's either a PCI, AGP, or PCI-express.

I doubt your computer uses DDR2 PC6400 which that RAM is, you should double check. You can do a google search on how to find out what graphics card/RAM type you have. My guess would be DDR PC3200.

First you're going to have to find out whether your motherboard supports DDR, or DDR2 and if it has an AGP or PCI-E slot. Your computer might ONLY have PCI slots, and if so, you're screwed in the graphical department.
On top of all of this, I doubt the power supply which came with your computer has the recquired connectors, and/or puts out enough power for more modern equipment.

TBH I think the req for L4D will be higher than the OB. You got tons of zombies on screen so it can get chaotic. Not too higher than the OB probably though. You can get a very good computer for $700 or something actually. Will be better cost effective as well.

go to http://www.hwinfo.com
download the 32bit version, it should tell you all you need to know about your motherboard. Post up all the info and we'll be able to tell you what RAM you need and if you need an AGP graphics card or not.

Perfect, just the info we needed.
Your board has an AGP graphics slot, although graphics cards no longer use AGP, its only recently been phased out so you shouldn't have to much trouble finding a better one for not to much money.
I'm thinking ebay is probably your best bet to upgrade RAM and graphics, second hand stuff that'll give you a good performance boost for not much cash.

I'm very rarely on msn or anything like that I'm afraid, to busy at the moment!
The memory you currently have, you're better off taking it out completely. If you mix and match memory of different sizes, your computer will run slower than running just one type.
Bin the 256mb chips, and get 2 x 1gig sticks instead (making sure its pc2700 SD RAM)

Best card thats compatible for your motherboard, in its price range. Anything else below this isn't really worth mentioning.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8 2E16820141215 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820141215)
You could combine it with two different ones, such as the ones linked above. Some people will say its not a good idea to mix and match, but because your motherboard doesn't support dual channel, I don't see a problem.
By the way, you arn't limited to sticking PC2700 into your system. You can put in faster speeds (PC3200), but it will default to PC2700 speeds. So you'll have more headroom, if you ever want to use the PC3200 in a faster system.
Your processor could be a limiting factor, though.
