okay well, since my money is just pilling up (hold off spending, and my B-day!), I`ve decided to buy a new computer, from what i can tell. it will have 2 gb of ram, 256mb video card, 2-3ghz dual core processor. with these specifications i should be able to run l4d right? (i know that the official specifications are not released yet, but considering the orange box, and any "inflation" of requirements, should l4d be around here?)

I recommend a card with 512?MB of VRAM, a dual core processor probably around 2.4 GHz and yes, the 2GB of ram.
Do they still make 256 video cards?

yeah, that`s what the guy at futureshop said it would have. I suppose i could save a little more and get a better video card. and the dual core was 2-3 (can`t remember exactly how much though)

Sounds good, the video card depends on what resolution your monitor is. If you could find out the model number it helps a lot more than just the amount of memory.

When are you thinking of buying the computer?
Whats your budget?
Pre built or components and put them together yourself?

Should be good enough to run it on high smoothly,if its not, then just a small change of ur graphic card should do it

it is a soyo 1440X900 resolution monitor, the part number on the bottom of the box isR1712MA9WYA01 V1.1
don`t know if that`s what you meant. anywho,

a card that is around 200 dollars and is an 8800. i don't know which 8800 card is good since i don't own one but expect to save up around 200-400 dollars on a top of the line card.

Cost vs performance, you can't beat the 8800GT (256mb if you're running low resolutions, 512mb if you're running higher than 1024x12800

Make sure all of your RAM is DDR3. ESPECIALLY in your graphics card. 8800GT's are a pretty good buy at the moment, I'd just be careful buying from futureshop.
Hence the following quote from www.bash.org: (http://www.bash.org)
<@FirebirdGM> I just called my Futureshop and asked them how much a 20 GB Hard drive weighed when it was full with information, compared to when it was empty.
<@FirebirdGM> The guy that was on the phone told me that it was only a few pounds difference.
<@FirebirdGM> And that's why I don't shop at futureshop.
Consider buying the parts separately and assembling the comptuer yourself. It's not hard and it's bound to be cheaper! Also, you get that overwhelming sense of pride every time you talk about the computer that you built yourself!

....Ignore this.
DDR2 is fine in your RAM chips. I think all the latest graphics cards use DDR3 standard anyway.

Omg, gotta make all my ram DDR3 now!

Ignore that, DDR3 is BETTER! Of course, I did mean that DDR3 in your graphics card is the most important, I should have mentioned that. DO NOT GET A GRAPHICS CARD THAT DOES NOT HAVE DDR3.
As for your other RAM, if you're getting DDR2 get it really damn fast. Faster RAM will improve your performance in all sorts of ways.
It also helps to get them paired.

well I already got the computer pre built. infact it's what i'm using to post this right now. I'm just looking to upgrade my video ccard and I'm all set

yeah it's DDR2 ran now for my regular ram. IF i see the need to upgrade it, then i will in the future.
Its also a typo.
I know just kidding with ya.

As soon as i saw this, i hopped in my car. went double the speed limit to futureshop, grabbed the ram of the shelf tossed them a wad of cash and left not bothering to get my change, i then sped again to get back home. was that fast enough? lol J/k i know what you meen my current ram is doing just fine. I will upgrade that when i need to.

How do you know you can run L4D on that? g/card is going to struggle, as is your lack of RAM.
