So I'm trying to watch old demos for the frag video I'm making, but everything I try to watch comes in with errors and fails.

No pure server whitelist. sv_pure = 0

Anybody have any idea WTF this is and how to fix it?

It's all updated to the latest patch.

I have a bunch of them from the people who have contributed to the 411 L4D2 frag. And yes, they are for sure L4D2 .dems.

I found that old demos recorded under older patches would never play again when a new patch was released. Dunno why that would be, seems ridiculous.

There's a way around that.
If you go into the steam.inf file in the /left4dead2/left4dead2/ directory, you can change the patch version to an older version so you can view them.

EDIT:
Open the .inf file with notepad if you can't do it by default.

Yeah, true...I see your point, but I've been using Fraps now and no longer have to worry with steam demos.

I can agree with that, but my PC is extreme and FPS is never an issue.

What video editing program are people using to turn steam demos into YouTube stuff?

Well, what I do is record the .dem, then I FRAPS it.
That way I can pinpoint the footage I want, while also making a file that's MASSIVELY smaller.

There is probably your problem. Changing the patch number in the settings will only work for so long. I assume these demos were pre-dlc, and a good amount has changed since then.
