View Full Version : Anchorman zombie with L4D story?

With the new scans, there is a news 10 van in the background. It could be possible that there are zombiefied anchormen/woman in the game! :D Much similar to this: URL (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=related&v=A6a9iFSkPRc) Maybe even the camera man as well. It also supports a subtle back story to the game as well. In TF2 there is a secret organization of a nuke and the other one is monitoring the other. So in L4D I think the news team was reporting at the hospital on a possible new and deadly virus. After quarantining this person, something happened. The infected person bit a doctor or nurse and started the entire chain reaction of events. The hospital campaign was the first map to get done which also starts the campaigns and story of L4D. My theory anyways.

did you have a question?

No but I thought it might hint at a story and a possibility of a camera man with his anchorman/woman in the game. :D
wow, you got all that from just seeing a News-channel 10 van in the background?? I think I saw a "Stop"-sign in a corner of the street, what do you make of that? :P heh, naaaaaah..! I'm just being an ass now. sorry :P
no but really, hate to rain on your parade there buddy, but I think that the van is just there for... realism(?). yeah you know, so the streets won't be empty, because they gotta be filled with something, right? So the devs put some police cars, a news-channel van and other stuff in there. I think that's how it probably is..

No, I don't think hool is that far off at all. The urban environments are set up like you'd expect a city to appear in the last moments before total zombie destruction. The map designers aren't just plopping any old thing in, they're trying to make you believe that you're part of this zombie apocalypse.

Agree, would be pretty cool,u know u pass near the van then suddenly an infected with a cameraman/anchorman/whatever uniform suddenly bashes the door and jumps at ya
Yeah, I didn't think he was so far off either, until he started talking about TF2 and some secret organisation and nukes and monitors (what's that all about?) and basically everything that came after that. I mean, I can understand the newschannel van and some infected running around, dressed as a anchorman/reporter/cameraman. So far so good.
But then the rest starts sounding like the storyline of a zombie-movie, which is kinda cool, but still.. I didn't know the devs went so deep into things. As far as I know I thought L4D didn't had any real story to it. It's basically just "grab a gun and go" or "Jump in, grab a gun, stay with your buddies, kill the zombies"
But while we are on the subject of 'vehicles'; I've seen police cars, civilian cars, taxis, vans, trucks, military humvees, but... I don't think I've seen a ambulance truck. thinking about it, I've seen infected police officers, infected army soldiers but no infected ambulance crews either. hmmmm... :/
Would be weird if the game didn't have any ambulances and stuff, considering it's the HOSPITAL MAP!!! O_O
can anyone conform that there are ambulances in the game? Perhaps even post a screenshot of it or something? :P

Oh no, TF2 has it's own story. I think the Red is some evil organization and the Blue is trying to spy on the other. The Blue basically wants world dowmination. It's very vague though: URL (http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache:augiQy3S4bEJ:www.gamespot.com/pc/action/teamfortress2boa/show_msgs.php%3Ftopic_id%3Dm-1-40516008%26pid%3D437678+TF2+Cold+War&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=3&gl=us&client=firefox-a) Every Valve game has some type of story with it. Your not just going to be plopped into there like you described. *Who knows, maybe even the ambulance drivers were the first ones to be bit and people ran away from that area first.

I don't know if there is any Hospital stuff in the streets, but there are Infected wearing patients gowns inside the building. :D (see Hell Hospital Gameplay (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/24559.html))

This guy better stay away from the conspiracy theory websites. No telling what he would do if he sees that stuff. Just look at how crazy he got over a van lol. But really I agree with others its probably just street decoration. I would doubt television would still be functioning in a disaster like that so reporters are useless.
Actually, your guess about the televisions not functioning is actually correct, Sifer2 (I think). If I'm not mistaken there is a television in what appears to be the livingroom right at the beginning of the map (when you walk down from the roof of the building into the first apartment) And if you turn to look at the tv it seems like all the channels are offline.
Not that the survivors can grab the remote and surf the channels to see if anything is on or to change to the news-channel, too see what the they has to say about this viral outbreak or anything, but still.. :P
but hey! that's actually a great idea though! :D what if you walk up to the television and pressed your Use-key and then you would change to the news channel or something, and you would see some footage on what's happening on the streets of the city or something. that could be cool, I dunno :P
Maybe it doesn't have to be the news-channel. maybe it is some sort of a emergency broadcast! telling any survivors still alive in the city to go to the hospital and there will be a rescue-chopper coming to get them. eh? EH?? :D

Yes. In the map build I played, which may be subject to change, there was indeed an ambulance, and an infected came out the back of it.

I thought they weren't gonna do scripted moments.

Sorry I am a little behind the news, but I don't see a van in any of the pictures. Can someone send me a link or something?

lol i like how u stated that. but yes, this is true (for the record).
i wish they just made like, overrun mode, where the director purposely spawned WAY more AI infected than normal. (the health/dmg stuff would still be set to normal mode's settings)
i have also said how it would be cool to have an AI only mode, but, whatever...(that would be single-player, mind u)

I was under the impression that there was a single player mode where you could LAN with a few buddies, say like five and who ever wasn't controled by the players would be AI controled, or play it by yourself with everything else AI. Was I mistaken on that part?

Well, it's just like creating a server with bots in CS:S, if you have done that. Whoever isn't controlled by players will be bots, just like you said. :)

UPDATE! So I got a clearer picture with the wallpaper. So I thought there was a viral site like Portal has so I googled the news station and nothing came up. I did find this though on the "Newcastle virus" (Myxovirus multiforme): URL (http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/cgi-bin/abstract/110539260/ABSTRACT) The acronym is also WTTQ and ironically, it's a virulent strain on cells in tissue culture (aka you rot like normal infected or it acts like steroids making you incredibly strong)! Now this has a profound impact on the story because it explains how the hell somebody has a 50 yard prehensile tongue, or any other special infected types.
Upon further research you find out it's: "Newcastle disease virus: causes respiratory disease in many species of birds, with nasal discharge and diarrhea; may infect man, causing conjunctivitis; transmission in birds is by drinking water or dust." URL (http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/medical/newcastle_disease_virus.htm)
How you get it: "Newcastle disease virus: The most well known avian paramyxovirus in the genus AVULAVIRUS and the cause of a highly infectious pneumoencephalitis in fowl. It is also reported to cause CONJUNCTIVITIS in humans. Transmission is by droplet inhalation or ingestion of contaminated water or food." So it is a high possibility the story is based off a mutation of a virus similar to the bird flu: URL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avian_influenza) So to sum it up, it's a bird flu that has mutated with symptoms of rabies.

I typed in the news station and nothing came up but WTTQ aka the "Newcastle virus".
