View Full Version : Which to buy!

I have a lot of friends on xbox live but I like the idea of the mods/maps on PC. Which would you get?

Reptile
01-10-2008, 07:27 AM
Are your Live -friends going to buy the game too? If, you should pick the X360 version. If they're not, take the other one.

I prefer PC because of the controls, and 'cos it has unlimited replayablity because of the custom maps. Playing Hospital 500 times gets pretty boring, I guess.

No competition. PC because of the controls.

Welcome to the forum, PraireGhost!

Stick around the forum and on our Steam Community group, and you'll have more friends here!

I'm getting it for PC, as I have no 360.

Edit:

Seconded.

This definitely isn't a PC vs Console thread. Don't even bring that in this thread.

Now... I'm thinking PC because of the mods and maps. I do like the easy voice chat and friend list on 360 though. But I'd probably have to pay for some maps and I wouldn't on PC.

easy voice chat and friend list on 360

Remember that PC has voice chat too. Its just one button away! Steams great easy-to-use friend list will be in, too.

True.... Still a tough choice lol

I'll probably end up getting the PC version because of the maps and mods.

BTW.... gamestop has 10% off of Left 4 dead right now.

If you find FPS:es better on X360, you should take that one.

It's your choice.

True.... Still a tough choice lol

I'll probably end up getting the PC version because of the maps and mods.

The creator of ctf_quarry (http://www.fpsbanana.com/maps/40889), one of the best custom maps available for TF2 (and incidentally a personal friend of mine) has stated that he intends to make a map (or rather, a series of maps) for L4D - and judging by the quality of of Quarry, and the fact that he has now been hired by the Black Mesa team, I can safely say that the custom content that will undoubtedly be released for L4D greatly corroborates the superiority of the PC version.

Yeah im considering both currently, but I think im going to get it for PC, can you imagine yourself playing CS on a 360? Its just the style of the game. I don't think it will be as good as it can be on 360.

BTW.... gamestop has 10% off of Left 4 dead right now.

In any other situation, I'd recommend the PC because of my entirely biased belief about the controls and like you said, the mod scene. However, this is the game to play with your friends and that's going to be a lot of fun. If they're on Xbox, you probably should be too.

Unless you'd like to make new friends, which is cool too.

to tell the truth i prefer a controller over a mouse, i can be much more accurate and still be quick with it, its all about opinion. (And lets hope no-one turns this thread into a PC vs console discussion)
i hope not, its dumb when someone says there is better when everyone know xbox 360 is the far superior. lol just kidding, i think everyone is entitled to the opinion and people who try to convince someone their's is better is just ignorant.

I don't think that's entirely fair for you to say. I'm not denying a mouse is superior because I'd be retarded to deny pixel perfect precision, but after playing every Half Life game on the PC I played Episode Two/Portal on my Xbox 360 as my first experience of them because I thought my video card was getting a bit long in the tooth, and it was extremely enjoyable thanks to VALVe's efforts to work with the gamepad.

It's definitely not as clear cut as you make it out to be, and I'd say if he has at least 3-7 friends on Xbox Live that are BUYING it, that's definitely the version to go with. I'm getting both since I'm getting a new computer in the next 2 weeks.

This post that I am writing is not to start a flame war. It is to tell this man that making blatant lies about things that are 100% untrue to try and prove that you are right is wrong. I seriously doubt you heard that, and if you did you heard it not from a valid source. PC version will, as like all Valve multiplayer games, have seamless VoIP. So take your flame war starting console promoting arse to a different place where it is appreciated, as it is not nor will it ever be here.

And sorry if you just heard this from a bad source.

Err... M&K being superior isn't a matter of opinion. Technically, you can't achieve what you can with a M&K with a gamepad. It's impossible.

I'm sorry, did you read his reply before posting that?

In fact, do you read at all when posting? First of all, he was clearly referring to this: http://www.left4dead411.com/forums/index.php?actio n=vthread&forum=2&topic=1644 (http://www.left4dead411.com/forums/index.php?action=vthread&forum=2&topic=1644)

And second, how does he start a flamewar when his suggestion was to get both, and he didn't even start the topic.

I said sorry in the hopes of preventing this. Also, I read the post that I replied to, and no, I never heard that. But as I said, sorry in advance (Post advance). It wasn't a valid source yay I win! Back to the original question though. I think which version you get really depends on a couple things.

1. Do you like PC or console more?

2. Do you have friends who have PC's/consoles?

3. If yes, which one do you have more friends on who are actually going to buy it.

Because even if you love it on 360 more than PC a thousand times over, playing with strangers on 360 isn't going to be as good as playing with your friends on PC, or visa versa.

EDIT: Also dontleave, he said he was buying for xbox ("See you on live"), he was suggesting the guy who started this (sorry forget your name) should get both.

EDIT:EDIT: Misread your post, we are on the same page now.

if left 4 dead is anything like css with it's community, I don't expect very heavy duty mods. I just expect minor things just like css has. Although zombie mod does change things a ton, it still isn't huge.

I'd say go with the one you have more friends on (360 of course)

Also, I expect splitscreen on 360, so you can have friends over in the same room too.

Now... I'm thinking PC because of the mods and maps. I do like the easy voice chat and friend list on 360 though. But I'd probably have to pay for some maps and I wouldn't on PC.

definetly the PC. i bought the Orange Box for the xbox 360 and i enjoyed it but it didn't look as good as the PC version. wen i played team fortress 2 on the 360 i thought it was good and that it was as good as it could get. but wen i bought it on the PC i found out how much fun it was because how it looked so much better and the controls/custom maps were addicting fun.

i am going to assume that this could be the same with Left 4 Dead as they both are using the same engine. i could be wrong because it is being made by a different developer. Another reason why i think the PC is a better choice is because since there is only 4 campaigns, which is like 4 maps, (since they're each just like one large map with load times) you won't have that much fun on the 360 version because those are the maps you're going to be playing for the next few months before turtle rock decides to release new maps. but for the PC, new maps come out almost every day and adds so much replay value. and i do believe that the PC is much easier to control and will add more difficult enemies (AI is dumber on console games due to controls).

and wen u think about it, if you get the PC version you could always rent left 4 dead from gamefly.com for your xbox 360, and you cant rent PC games. if you have a gamefly.com account then renting left 4 dead on the xbox and buying it for the PC will be your best choice as you can keep left 4 dead as long as u want on the 360. games these days don't have that much replay value on the 360 as much as PC so you probly will have your fill of left 4 dead on the 360 by the end of a month. so u should definetly buy it for the PC, especially if you have a small TV as it wouldn't be worth it.

I will either get the pc version or die trying.

-M&K is better, in my opinion.
-I want to make maps, and play new maps
-Anybody worth gaming with, in my opinion, will have this on their pc so I don't care about that nonsense on 360.

Oh, and I did play Counter-strike on an Xbox once. My friend bought it because his old computer sucked, but he still wanted to know what all the fuss was about. Yet he didn't have any internet either. So he pretty much paid for CS minus the online component, minus the M&K aiming ability, and minus new maps.

Damn did that suck.

In my opinion

Going back to the strategy guide thing .......

Seriously why? I don't think it could last 3 pages let alone 15! Ya gotta be stoned to buy that!

EDIT: Actually here's my guide for you:

Run, shoot a lot, pick up your idiot mate who ran headlong into the zombie crowd, call him a douche, run some more, pick up health and ammo, run again, shoot some more, see the tank, run like hell, die. Wash, rinse, repeat. And every once in a while actually succeed in getting to the end.

In a good, thrilling, addictive way of course!

You can pre-order from sites like Amazon/GameStop/EBGames right now.

And second, never listen or trust the release dates shown at other sites. There is no organization that exists that knows anything about the exact release date other than Valve, and Valve most likely doesn't even know at this stage. All the release dates you see that say anything other than "2008" are just guesses and speculation because they have to have some guess.

Don't pre-order for gamestop. The people there are class-A noobs. Just wait until it goes on Steam. They usually give a discount for pre-ordering on there, and there isn't any shipping OR tax.

For this game there is no point in getting it for the 360.

The only real reason you would get it for the 360 is if your computer sux balls and you know you won't be able to play it. If you want to use a controller like I do, and am, go download the patch from miscrosoft that allows you o plug in the 360 controller to your PC. If your Live runs dry, and you don't have the money to pay for it at the moment you are stuck with the computer.

PC!!!!!!!!! easily the better choice. FPS was born on the pc and it will stay on the pc. I have about 7 friends that play COD4 on Xbox (i dunno if thats the exact number just guessin), but when I got it a couple weeks ago i got it for pc, and don't regret anything. Here's another deciding factor: PC games are USUALLY about $10 cheaper. Anyways, while my friends have "fun" prestiging and reseting their levels in COD4, I'll go play some Zombie Mod on the better COD4(wooo!). In other words, Price and Mods.

RING RING! We have a winner! That's exactly why most people on 360 are getting it, because not everyone spends as much money on a PC as people do. I think the PC will be much more immersive because of how close you are to the screen and your speakers or head phones are right near you. Good scares I bet. But I think it'll do quite nicely on 360 as well. Playing Left 4 Dead on a 42" LCD with 7.1 Surround cant NOT be awesome. Also I really hope maps get into the 360 version, none of us want to feel like we're punished for not doing as much pc gaming to make a super pc. I really hope they realize that there is a large community of both 360 and PC players that all the makers of this game do exactly the right things to make sure that one isn't better than the other. Obviously PC will have mods and such, but we want everything that we can get.
