Games aren't supposed to be realistic. No game is EVER realistic. It's about gameplay.

I don't know if I can simply vote yes or no on something like this.
It's important for a game to be rooted in reality so that the basic ground rules are laid and the player knows what to expect, but for it to be really fun, it needs to have something special.
Game-play is more important, but realism is important too.

one thing ive noticed that seems to be one of the main complaints about the realism of the game is the guns. But that brings up the point that if we are setting this game in world where there is a virus that causes the infected to go crazy why couldnt they have a 50 round magazine?

For me, realism is a very important part of this game. I speak of realism not in the sense of whether or not this could really happen, but rather in the sense that if these events did happen that they would be displayed accurately.

Same for me

I think alot of people misinterpret what realism means. Practically everything about this game is 'unrealistic', even if it's done for 'realism'. For example, I kinda get the impression that the weapons that are in the game (Uzi, pump-shotgun) are in there because they are 'more realistic' weapon choices than, say, an RPG or minigun. To have a minigun would just be ridiculous. But it's not realistic at all for civilians to be walking around with uzi's, blasting away at crazed zombies. I think you have to pick an area of 'realism' that you wanna focus on and that fits the game, and not go beyond that. (Which is why ironsights in this game would be a totally bad idea...)
Gameplay is the most important aspect to me. But also some realism (I'm thankful that there is gravity in the game, and that we don't float through a city, shooting laser-lock-on nuke launchers at infected the size of king kong)

AA was realistic with its spawn and respawn, the realism involving weapons and combat was superb. The 2 hour wait times wasn't.

I vote for unrealistic based entirely on my preferences. I would probably not enjoy this game as much if it was slower paced and involved more tactical decisions, I just want to blast some zombies.

In a game of a nature such as L4D, I'm perfectly happy to leave realism out of it if that's what it requires to make it fun. Heck, we're fighting zombies (or infected, if you prefer). SOme of those zombies ahve super-powers, so realism obviously isn't at the forefront.
If you want more realistic games, those are out there (such as the realism mod for BF2).

It's nature is survival co-op, realism can be at the forefront if it likes. It obviously doesn't like.

I didn't say realism couldn't be at the forefront, just that it isn't (as you said, it obviously doesn't like).

It's ultra realistic, of course, you know, what with the mutated rabies virus and being killed and "respawning". When I die I want to respawn in Fiji. :p

I like that the zombies move fast and die rather quickly. I don't like however that in the videos released of players surrounded by 10+ zombies all whacking them... the player doesn't die. Its as if the players are super human.

If it's any consolation, they're probably playing on easy. So if you were to play on hard you might find it more suited to your tastes (or maybe even on the difficulty above that, which I'm pretty sure exists)

The obvious choice would be to pick gameplay over realism and in most cases I would agree to that but FPS are boring when the same thing happens again and again. I want advanced AI that is human-like, not run around choas and charge at you head on.
On a side note, if there wasn't boss infected in this game I probably wouldn't play it as much because even though the director controls where they spawn, killing mindless zombies over and over again would get boring a lot quicker.

Hi I'm A S.T.A.L.K.E.R. as you can no doubt guess, I just recently joined the forum. Big fan of L4D yadda yadda yadda.
I think the question of whether or not realism should be added into the game is moot.
The game's nearly done, and I don't think TR would like to toss away years of good work that's almost done in favour for a completely new game that might not be as good as L4D looks now.
Besides think about realism in this game.
It'd be over for the survivors in seconds.
