With the release date pushed back, will left 4 dead be vista only? I hope not but it might be possible that Pc games might not be Xp compatible at that time?
And yes I said PC becuase I am posting this from my new computer! I finally bought it and got it working, (had some internet/sound problems first but it`s okay now WOOT WOOT WOOOOOOOT!)
now all i need is to upgrade my video card and i'm all set.
anyway. about the vista....

There is not a chance in hell, heaven and Earth, beyond the stars or on in another dimension that Left 4 Dead will be Vista only.
Rest-assured.

Why would pushing the game back have any relevance to it being limited on one operating system?
Perhaps because Vista will be the only OS being supplied with new PCs in late 2008? Anyways, I can't see it being Vista only. That'd go against all we know about the Valve games. Seems like people who do Vista only titles are tight with M$ and don't give a shit about the consumer. I'm holding onto my belief that Valve are not like that.

Source doesn't use DX 10, so it would be pointless. And, they would screw over all their fans who are using XP (which is probably most of them to be honest) so that would be a pretty bad move on their part!
Source doesn't use DX 10
Great point, Master_Bungle.
I'm loathe to update to Vista so this calms whatever minute fears I may have had (even though I always thought they'd be stupid for doing this).

Yah, most Steam/Valve gamers are using PCs as old or older than HL2. Dx10 is pointless. (I think their survey said 10% of the steam users have Dx10 graphics cards, so they won't be goin' vista soon)
PS- Why did I buy it anyway? Not like I want to play Crysis.

All PC games are released as Games for Windows which has to work for Vista as well as XP. The only reason why Microsoft has this brand is so that the games that are made on the PC will be able to play on Vista. Although I feel sorry for anyone that has to use Windows Vista and is a gamer.

Don't feel to sorry for me ;)
No problems with vista here, happily playing older games like WH:40k -DOW as well as crysis and pro evo 2008.

Yeah, I've been using Vista since it was released in Februrary. Its been great for me. Its just the trend to bash on Microsoft when people don't even know what they're talking about. Every program I've ever used on Win 98 2000 and XP runs perfectly on Vista.

me too, cant go back to xp now. it is strange and alien to me.
but all my games run better and 1 or 2 have no change.
AND! DX10.1 will be a very cheeky little perk for Vista when the new service pack comes.

if u ever saw a steam survey relsults page, u would know that making l4d vista only would be marketing suicide..
fiftysevenpercent
01-13-2008, 01:29 PM
Oh, I'm not saying it wouldn't be marketing suicide. Vista is over priced and most people are reluctant to change. I mean, I wouldn't pay 400 or 500 bucks or whatever for Vista Ultimate. I got it free so I have no bias in my opinion based on price. It would be a bad idea to go Vista only, I'm just arguing the fact that Vista is a pretty good operating system.
Also, remember back to when XP was coming out. Everyone was saying the same things about 98 being the best and XP being a pile of crap. It happens in waves.

01-13-2008, 02:20 PM
lol, i got mine sorta free too, came with hardware. but anything below ultimate isnt worth the change and paying full price for ultimate is aslo silly. and yeah, there is no way they would make it Vista only!

Its not that Vista is buggy it takes nearly twice the requirements to run games on it. It takes more CPU than it should for a operating system

your right, but its the same with every part of PC gaming. you get out what you put in. or you spend more to get the games slightly beter looking. for example, you buy Vista, and have to upgrade your CPU but that brings with it DX10 setings on the newest games. . . . its all one ripp off after another.
No real gamer buys a stock PC.
Why not? 'Stock' systems are getting cheaper all the time. I purchased my system pre-built and ready to go. It's easy, it's convenient, and it means that if anything goes wrong I send it back and get it fixed.
I guess that no real gamer buys a 'stock' Xbox 360 or PS3 either?? O_o

Oh for the love of God don't start a console/pc war!
And i've only had one blue screen of death since using Vista (touch wood). Granted that's one too many, but hearing what some people say about Vista, it works perfect by comparison.

Vista is definitly a good operating system, and theres no doubt that we will all have to make the change sooner or later, but at this point i'd ays about 80% of pc gamers are still using XP:)
we will all have to make the change sooner or later
Indeed. How many people here are on Win 95, or 98 or Milennium? Eventually upgrades have to happen, we're all slaves to the M$ money machine. But currently Xp is stable and covers all bases. I'm in no rush to change.

anything below ultimate isnt worth the change
... why?
Ultimate is sh*te, the best version of vista is the most basic, unless you're planning on running your business from your pc.
All ultimate gives you is a ton of business and security apps that you just don't need!
I've deleted/disabled so much stuff that vista home came with, as A: i don't need it, and b: it just hogs system resources.
They should do a stripped down 'gaming' version of vista, it would sell better than any other.

there should only be one version, Ultimate and it should be cheeper!

and i have said before but DX10.1 is on the way and will rule all for games!
No real gamer plays a console over a PC.
Whereas I'm inclined to agree on this point, despite owning an old PS2 and a SNES (purely for Mario Kart, you understand) I disagree entirely that building your own PC somehow gives you a monopoly on the term 'real gamer' over those who opt for the cheap and convenient option of buying a system prebuilt. In fact, those who claim this are nothing more than elitist wankers clinging to an old fashioned idea and unable to see what is right before their eyes.
Now, I'm not going to take a guess at what rig you have, but my dual core, 2 gig ram and 8800GTX is more than enough for me to play any game that you care to throw at me.
If that means I'm not a real gamer, because I'm prepared for the next couple of years including DX10, then I guess I'll have to settle for not being a real gamer.
... as difficult as that is for me to swallow. ;)

I hate everyone of you. That's not how you use monopoly, and that's not even a definition of a real gamer. It isn't cheap to buy a pre-built computer, you are a dumb fuck for thinking that people who can save money are elitist wankers. I throw crysis at you. That doesn't mean you are a real gamer because you probably still suck balls at everything you play. People are so stupid.
It isn't cheap to buy a pre-built computer.
That depends entirely on your earning potential. It's probably not cheap for you, what with collecting welfare checks or leeching off your parents or whatever.
The difference in costs between self built and pre-built is lessening. I'm not disputing that you may save a little cash by building your own. I prefer the convenience of being able to return a busted unit over the e-cock inflating knowledge that I bolted some shit together.
you are a dumb fuck for thinking that people who can save money are elitist wankers.
That's totally not what I said. I said people who claim they are 'real gamers' over those who opt for the cheap and convenient option of buying a system prebuilt are elitist wankers. Where you get your system from is irrelevant.
I throw crysis at you.
I throw it back. This is fun!!

. . . . what he said!
just try and see the games industry for what it is. u wouldnt have a PC to play on if it wasnt for console production. they wouldnt be this far in how games are played. game companies wouldnt have the money to make the games you worship, try showing some fucking respect please! and unless you are infact using games as ur primary source of income i think ur a noob, becasue a REAL gamer as you put it, wouldnt disregard a console or a pre built PC as so manny ppl do.
your not a real gamer!
Define real gamer and I'll be the judge. ;)

AzH if you are planning on breaking every piece of hardware after the warranty is up than ya, building it would be more expensive. The truth is that if you aren't a complete idiot you can build a computer and save a ton of money. If you like cock then you can buy an hp or something like that and play civilization 4 until your lactation shorts out your keyboard.

The implication is from you, not from me. Buying a pre-built PC is, to me, both cheap and convenient. Like I said, it all comes down to earning potential.
I'm not against building something. I can piss around inside a PC swapping video cards, HDDs, RAM, etc. But having it built for me is the better option for me.
