To all,
So obviously this is my first post here, and i'm hoping to find the answers to a few questions I've had since first playing L4D.
So first question is how to weed out the "griefers" and get better than average players.......... I'm the type that hasn't played L4D2 because i'm that into L4D and don't like the lack of structure in L4D2..i'm more into performance and stats, head-shots and taking no damage. I've played and finished all the accomplishments.....a year ago. I've got a group of 10 or so "expert's experts" but am looking for a larger community. I realize what i'm looking for now is called a "clan" or "community," but I'd love to know the opinions of those that still play seriously in 2011....
Secondly, I'm a HUGE fan of the HEM maps....they are very tricky, tons of tans, witches, zombies, hordes, etc but still with the same map structure and layout.
Whenever i log into steam and then play L4D, create my own lobby and then pick the add-on HEM campaign (I'm a fan of HEM no mercy), i NEVER, NEVER, have anyone to join......is it because there simply are not others playing this campaign or because I'm doing something incorrectly? I'd just love to have my "public game" actually be public in the sense that others DO join.
Having said all of this, HEM revived L4D for me......I was tired of the noobs coming in every time the game dropped in price, the team griefing that has come into style, and blah blah......
where can i find a group of serious members that love to play with other serious members without any BS, and (gasp) actually have mics!!
Any other challenges out there i should check out?? I have found reverse no mercy to be fun and all of the HEM maps.

In order for people to join your lobby with a custom campaign, they must have the campaign too. No one will be able to find your lobby if no one has the same map. What you should do is find a group of players and friends, have them all download the map, and then all play it together. You won't have much luck hosting a custom campaign lobby unless it's a very popular one like Suicidal Blitz or Death Abroad (or is it aboard).
There are quite a few people on this website that still play the game a lot, I'm sure there will be plenty willing to play. If you can find the steam friends thread, feel free to add anyone you want.

I believe you're looking for a league to play in. Otherwise, you're shit outta luck.

You're playing the wrong game if you're worried about stats and headshots.

thank you for this piece of information. I am sure others who search for related topics and find this post will enjoy your contribution.
That said, I simply was implying I want to play with players better than the normal players who play in "expert" mode.
And if a league is what i need to join, any recommendations? I'd ask what a league is compared to a club or clan or community ....but i bet google can tell me also.

A league is a number of teams (clans, whatever) competing.

There is a new L4D tourny starting up that needs a few more teams. Talk to Slainpwnr666 he knows more about it than me.

#1 Rule of being on these forums that you need to be aware of is don't listen to anything that Bloodshed posts as it's all either bullshit of GameInformer links.

just wanted to say thanks to all of you who helped me out regarding my initial questions......
it's nice to get a response so fast that is informative!!
so I have one more caveat....I never got into being the bad guys... so don't really play versus (unless i'm not going to be the infected)
Any competitions I may find particularly interested in?
PS - anyone that wants to play on L4D is welcome to look me up... name is "demo"

Unfortunately
most league matches involve versus mode on both ends.

Not aware of any competition regarding campaign only. You can always do a speed run of a level and upload it to youtube for bragging rights though.

*Deep breath*
CEVO just recently announced Season 2 of the L4D1 "Throwback" tournament, which is hardly a throwback now that it has gathered such a strong following. In addition, IDLeague is starting up soon, with the grand prize being 4 plane tickets to fly you and your team down to GXL 2011, an annual LAN event. Both of which will be played on the latest version of Rotobolin, unheard as of yet if they're going to use Hardcore Roto which the European players prefer, or standard Rotobolin.
Cevo's grand prize has yet to be announced, previously the winning team got 4 headsets, with the 2nd and 3rd place winners winning mousepads. Yes, you heard me, mouse pads. This is considered by many to be a step higher than the CEVO L4D2 tournament [Or was it Newegg] where first place winners received a Boomer Plushie and T Shirt.

see that's where i need a clan.....I've gotten to the point where i can speed-run any level that it can be done on......so i'm looking for others that have just as much experience as me...on L4D1
and no, that's not bragging....it's part of the package deal after you play one game and one game only non-stop since its release......if i couldn't i be more embarrassed....
although if someone wants to see a level in particular......[i take requests]

Hello reardoma,
I see that you want to have a server or servers that gives you a "hard" game of playing.
I would say to have a look here (http://www.left4dead411.com/forums/showpost.php?p=391598&postcount=43)
We own now 4x l4d servers and 1x l4d2
1x 18 players co-op
1x 8 player (hard) 8 players is a tank of 40K zombies at 200HP and massive hordes.
1x 8 player old school, no extra plugins but even more hordes as the other 8 player and always 3x hunter, 2x smokers and 1 boomer spawn at once.
then our latest one, 12 players coop perks (still under testing to find the perfect cfg)
if your a pro, try one of the 8 players, the UK 8 you can type !hard !extreme to make the game even harder to up 80K tank and when you do this everything.. (smoker, boomer, hunter and tank will get stronger and faster)
it is possible that a smoker can kill you in 2sec with 100HP ;)
cheers
