Well, just recieved a phone call saying that the results of my blood test is back, and that I'm all clear to start testing on Monday!

Basically, i'm in a group of 5% of the UK population that has a faulty liver enzyme, and as such I don't break down drugs in my bloodstream like most people do. To use caffine as an example, if I drink a coffee I become absolutely hyper, i fidget, can't concentrate, have tons of nervous energy, my pupils go massive and everyone thinks i'm on drugs, lol.

So, because of this, medical testing companies need 'poor metabolisers' - the name given to people who don't metabolise drugs properly (nothing to do with food metabolism by the way, thats totally different).
Well, on monday I go into a private secure hospital thing for 14 days (not allowed to leave, or even go outside! Totally locked in) whilst I'm given small doses off a new experimental heart drug to see how it reacts with people who are poor metabolisers.

The plus side is that its quite good money, so when I come out I'll be buying a new processor, motherboard, G/card etc :D

The downside....is that the drug has only been tested on a handful of people so far, and I could turn into 28 days later style lunatic on it, lol!

Internet access is limited in the clinic as well, but I'll try and post up how things are going in there. They best not release L4D whilst I'm in there!!!

Good luck man! I got to say at least you live in the UK, so if you do turn into a zombie it will take awhile for all the zombies to make it here to the US. However, if I remember correctly they said in 28 Days Later that the infected people made it to the United States. So who knows we might be screwed here too. Of to Walmart :)

Cheers for the messages of support!

Its not to bad in there, they have a common room with sky tv, pool table, darts, leather couches to chill out on. There are also a couple of 'quiet' rooms with couches if you just wanna read a book or do some work that you've brought in with you.

Food is free, you're fed pretty well in there, 4 meals a day with drinks whenever you want them. Diet is strictly controlled, so you can only have what they bring you.

There are normally 8 beds to a ward, but last time I was in there because I'm some rare freak I had the ward to myself.. which was cool because I got control of the TV and dvd thats in there :D

Thats what the wards look like - my bed obviously is the messy one!

Bit of a crap picture as it was taken in the dark, but there is a huge glowing digital clock in the room, which annoyed the hell out of me for some reason!

Am a bit worried about this drugs test....its testing a new experimental heart drug which has only just finished the animal testing - lots of dogs died in the making of this, lol. So far only 30 people have tested it... it'll be 31 on monday!!

I need to stock up on dvd's, books, films and magazines to take in with me. Also see if a mate is willing to lend me his laptop for 2 weeks. If so I'll try get some nurse pics for you all ;)
(cameras and camera phones are banned, but I smuggled mine in james bond stylee anyway!)

£1600 for 14 days. No expenses whilst in there, all I'm required to do is blood samples now and again, ECG monitor every couple of hours maybe. Most of the time I just find stuff to amuse myself with and decide what to spend the cash on!

New member here, been stealthy lurking here for a while B) just thought i'd chime in after reading this ...

This liver condition sounds awfully familiar, it wouldn't happen to be Gilbert's syndrome by any chance ? increase of bilirubin and what not ?

Anyways, good luck, and don't go spending all that cash at once ;)

I'm curious to know how did you go about enrolling yourself in this group?

Hello all, I'll start a diary topic in another thread with whats gone on so far, i'll do this later tonight as I've gotta be quick on the pc, as its lunch time :D

The liver condition is simply to do with drug metabolisation. 95% of the population are 'extensive metabolisers' this is the norm. There are 5% roughly who have this faulty enzyme, and its referred to as 'poor metaboliser' as drugs are broken down extremely slowly. It doesn't affect me in any way, except I can't have anything with caffine in or drink alcohol :D

There are radio adverts all the time trying to get volunteers, you can view their website here:
