A Windows 8-based PC is really a new kind of device, one that scales from touch-only small screens through to large screens, with or without a keyboard and mouse.
Sounds like it's for PCs too.

Ok, but I believe it's nothing new that the new windows will be touch-screen-based. They said that from the beginning.

Looks like Windows 7 and I will be as hard to part as XP and I. Windows XP is still reasonably common today and it is rather old now, so I don't suspect sticking with Windows 7 will have many negative consequences for years to come apart from DirectX, but hell, I'm not much of a graphics junkie. I have a DX10 card and it looks fine to me.
But seriously, this interface looks like piss. Same reason I don't like Macs, user friendly bullshit that deviates from what I'm used to so much that I just don't want to deal with it. The reason Windows 7 is so good is that it still feels like windows which is what I have always been used to but it brings lots of improvements.

Meh, lots of tech sites reporting on it. It's not like it's Microsoft announcing a new console or something, so if it is a rumor it really isn't anything to freak out over. I haven't seen any damning evidence stating that it isn't true yet. But yes, I had heard that.

I believe this is completely possible. Granted your machine is a quad core. Xbox 360 uses a 3 core processor with a simple gpu that runs on direct X. Xbox is heavily based on a windows PC architecture. With today's average pc (i mean if you went out and bought a desktop today) anybody could run 360 games, and Microsoft has all the codes, no emulation needed if it's natively built into W8. Granted It may run on a virtual machine for simplification and security, only issue I really see is the GPU market, but im sure they would put out drivers to work with it.
2nd point I'd like to make is that Microsoft doesn't make that much from hardware sales. They make their major money from software and subscriptions. With W8 running xbox 360, it basically opens up millions of more customers to purchase their software and subscriptions. If this is true I'd be a damn good move on Microsoft's part.
Even though everyone would be limited to the same graphical settings, with preset settings it allows less technically inclined people to jump in and enjoy, I know quite a few console gamers afraid to take the plunge since they're afraid of all the variables. With defined settings it would boost the pc player base when those new pc360 players decide to venture out on traditional pc game titles.
Tl;dr: Xbox is a low power pc, most likely not even needing emulation. Microsoft makes money on software and subscriptions, and it would be easy set-up for the less tech savvy. Mega money for Microsoft.

1. If it works like the xp-mode, it's crap.
2. If not and if this rumor is really true, then microsoft made a pretty smart move.

Someone could always find the thread or article on Microsoft stating that the keyboard and mouse was superior in precision when it came to playing games, that's why they didn't go any further with cross-platform play.

We've barely had any because they're all shut down before they start. :/
Nothing wrong with a nice debate.
It's no question any really, gamepads are good for some games and KBAM is good for others. When it comes to FPS though KBAM wins outright, provided it's in the hands of someone who can use it.
