With L4D being months away, I think it'd be a great time to add a mapping section to these forums. A few of us have already started maps and we have a few talented mappers here.

I think looking at custom maps and giving feedback would be a great way to get the community going before release and it'd also help pass the time a little.

Vote.

Care to explain why? Too early?

Consider that L4D games are played over 4 large connected maps, I don't think (as per your example of 8 months) 2 months per map is that bad, and some people like to have a few on the go at one time.

Yeah I seen your thread, thats the reason I started the poll tbh as I was impressed to see a few with maps on the go already - I'd been considering it myself and I'm sure a few others are too. Seems wierd to put all our screenshots in a single thread...maybe it's just me?

Would be good to have a few stickies on setting up hammer/resources and a place to discuss map ideas/types and problems. If people aren't that interested then they don't have to look.

I think there should be a mapping section on this site. The problem is, right now we only have some work in progress. Also, if you are new to mapping (like me and some others here, who said they are working on a L4D map) you probably get better help joining a dedicated site like interlopers.net .

Another idea: Squerl, you could add an entry to the main page, called "Custom Content". Everything finished like maps, skins, models or whatever people come up with, could be added to that site. I think this would motivate people to actually work on and finish a project.

Maybe it's a bit soon for either, but I think that's going to change in a month or two and some space for custom maps should be mandatory after release anyways, in my eyes!

Hmm maybe it should be a "Custom Content Section" then, I dunno. The problem is, with mapping, is that it's always going to be work in progress until Valve release the Hammer update.

I actually thought there would only be about three or four people with the intelligence to put maps together on here?

For maps worth playing, i'd have said so. I'd rather play custom maps where some intelligent thought would have gone into them beforehand than something some random has just thrown together on the spot.

But ok, take a look at hl2.net for example, can you imagine a mapping forum on here being as well maintained as that one? It would just be a mess on here i think.

well the site probably have a list selection like halomaps.com . With a rating and comment system, you would find which maps suck and the ones that dont.

i think this sounds like a pretty cool idea

L4D411 could be the first website with L4D info & first for custom L4D content

:O

it could attract some good level designers, 3D artists, etc.
