Hey there, I have been following this game for a while, but this hit me as a surprise...maybe I haven't been following the game as closely as I thought... It's probably unconfirmed, but according to wikipedia, there are Friendly NPCs in the game.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left_4_Dead
It is in the section called "The Survivors" Under "Award System"
Is this true? Or should I not trust wiki for info on the game?
Lets say there are NPCs. Would they serve as "Barneys" or be useful for opening doors and such?
Sorry if this has already been discussed... I just found the info interesting

There has never been anything mentioned about NPC's mate, and chances that there will be are low, if you read the story of L4D the four survivors are resistant to the airbourne virus that turns everyone into zombies so chances that you will find survivors are slim to none, but come to think of it there is a rescue chopper so there must be others.

That NPC stuff was talking about your fellow survivors and boss infected being NPC's after not enough people join.

I inserted {{fact}} in the article. Maybe someone can find a source?

Although there are only four playable characters, as you progress in the game players will encounter NPCs who will help you and your team out. But they will eventually die from their lack of surviving skills and health.

Within context it claims the NPC's will help you a long the campaign and can still die.

Makes sense. Everyone dies eventually.
Have a great day.

That's just some made-up bullshit, drastically speaking. I don't know where that piece of information came from, but it has no ground in my opinion.
Nice find though!

Who the hell wrote this thing?
"A huge, muscular zombie capable of throwing large items such as cars or blocks of concrete. Its slow movement is countered by high strength and toughness. To prevent the tank from camping away from the survivors for too long a frustration timer is set when the survivors are not in sight. When the timer runs out the tank becomes uncontrollable and begins stomping and thrashing giving away its position and becoming vulnerable to the survivors."
Two major errors: Tank is NOT slow and that is not how the frustration meter works
"The Infected receive demerits for mishaps such as harming a teammate, or killing a teammate. The Infected will also receive demerits for walking into friendly fire, avoiding the survivors for a certain period of time, or purposely helping the survivors."
Wrong? Where has this ever been said? I know this wasn't the case when we played.
If anyone is wiki savvy and wants to help out go ahead, otherwise I suppose I'll get an account or whatever I need to be an "expert" like this guy.

I vaguely remember the Steam forum idiots ranting about how the wiki doesn't get updated and it needs to be worked on. End result.

I think in an article somewhere it mentioned something about who is flying the helicopter. Sure, within the story, there could be other survivors. I mean, someone is flying the helicopter. The thing is though, is that within the context of the game itself, i.e, going from point A, to point B, to point Finale, there are no other survivors. You play the part of escaping, not the entire story.
But yeah, I don't remember if it was in an article, or the 411 chat, or where...

Wikipedia suddenly seems flawed in my eyes. I'd heard the rumours, but I'd never believed them to be true.

Wiki can be a really useful tool, particularly in academic areas. For example, I know that I can look up some information on Middle Eastern epics and expect that the only people looking to edit this are pretty knowledgeable. For things like gaming and pop culture crap, wiki is tainted by a mass swarm of people who think they're experts. Depends on what you're looking at.

I think this would actually be a a good idea if it was true.
having weak npc's who can help you out a little bit, or just being able to see infected run down and mob unarmed civilians!

never believe everything wikipedia says. the sites info is updated by thousands of people. people make up stuff on that site for anything. i wrote that this one guy was an asshole on there and it was put up for others to see. it got deleted but it just goes to show that anyone could put anything up there.

Whoever added that bullshit is clearly either misinformed, an asswhole, or just plain retarded. Or a combination of the 3.
I've read every article out there so far, and watched every video/interview, and NEVER has friendly NPCs been mentioned ever.
And the wiki thing about an infected demerit for walking into friendly fire proves it....INFECTED DON'T HAVE GUNS!
