Sorry if this has been talked about before but I couldn't find anything about it. if there are other threads about it tho feel free to flame me :) although id appreciate it if you could point me in the direction of the other threads.
I know that when mapping we don't have to worry about placing enemies because of the director. so is it possible to start mapping already using the hl2 deathmatch sdk? and then just transfer it all to the l4d editor when it's released to add any extras like start points and safe rooms? or r we looking at all new textures and everything?

If you don't mind mapping for a game you haven't played before, do all of the brushwork and work on the layout. You can use that later easily. I personally am going to wait until I have played it a bit and know some of the Infected strategies. But getting familiar with an idea you plan to realize in the future is never a bad idea. Good luck! ;)

thanx for the help. not sure what stratagies zombie hords might use other than run right at you though lol. although the playable zombies are bound to come up with all kinds of stratagies. im thinking people are more likely to come up with some thing to fit each map though, rather than make a plan and try to employ that into every map they play.
i did have an idea for a map though. was thinking along the lines of some huge cargo ship lost at sea. you'd need to make your way from the cargo hold at the bow of the ship to the engine room at the stern, then move up to the deck and travel the length of the ship back to the bow to escape on a smaller boat or choper. thought that would make for a nice contrast bettwen tight inclosed coridors and wide open spaces. plus you would know u had no where else to run being traped at sea.
by the way any one else have any good ideas for maps feel free to stick them up here.
