Uhhh noob got owned? Fuck unions.
I haven't played GTA IV myself because I'm too much of a cheapskate to buy a console but when you sign a contract to do acting or voice acting work you're stuck with it no matter how well the game/film/whatever does financially.
Think of it in terms of you hiring a plumber to fix your toilet. He quotes you a price which you both agree to and you both sign a contract, (normally you wouldn't sign a contract with a plumber fixing your toilet but bear with me here.) The plumber does a very good job and the toilet works better than ever - don't ask me how you measure the efficiency of a toilet - and he asks for more money because of his good work.
Doesn't sound right does it.
This voice actor agreed to do a service for a set price. The fact that he did a good job will work in his favour for the future; other people will want to hire him for more jobs and he'll be able to charge them more for it. If he starts demanding money retrospectively it will not work in his favour and people won't want to hire him because they don't want the hassel.
Oh and I don't mean to offend the fanboys by comparing GTA IV to a toilet.

That was a wonderful insight into how business and contracts work Ty, but I think the point of this thread was just to say that the guy's voice was awesome...
And I agree.
And that would be totally awesome if a plumber could make your toilet work better than ever.
Sorry, I used to be a law student. :P

He does deserve more than 100k. Ya know, your voice is like 90% of acting. Ever see a movie where they could perform actions well, but their voice is so unbelievable and stupid? Voice acting deserves just as much as acting on screen, it brings the character to life.

Yes, the plumber himself has no right to ask for more money, but take the film industry for example - New Line Cinema absolutely banked on the Lord of the Rings movies. Typically in Hollywood if your movie exceeds expectations, additional compensation is doled out to the director for his works. In the case of New Line and Peter Jackson, part of the contract detailed that Peter could use an auditor to assess profits and determine if additional compensation was warranted. The problem however was New Line wanted to use an internal auditing service, creating a conflict of interest right off the bat. This is what launched the lawsuit by PJ which was only recently resolved.

yes good point but toilets don't make money, do they?
It's all about residuals. Every form of voice acting benefits from residuals, be it film, television, radio, whatver - with the noted exception of electronic media (such as video games). The guy says it himself, he doesn't blame Rockstar, he blames the union. And it's true, the boys and girls are Rockstar are wiping their asses with hundred dollar bills ($600 MILLION worth of 'em), and this guy won't see a single red cent beyond the SAG day wage. That's pretty lame, imo.

I dunno, I know there is a way to turn crap to gold. I think it's called the Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer method.
Ten points if you get the joke.

I get it now, their movies suck so ten points to me! Unless this is an 'in' joke that you can only get by watching more of their bullshit films.
Dear God no, I wouldn't make anyone watch their films in order to get a joke! That's just devilishly cruel! How completely and utterly evil do you think I am?!
You get ten points, you got the joke. :)

ummm you guys do know that Micael Hollick, aka nicko bellic, was never supposed to do the voice acting, and he was at first just doing the motion capture. Maybe Rockstar decided to pay him the motion capture money and say " ohhh he gave us a great serbian accent, that's nice and we are lucky to have this guy, but lets not pay him." But I believe this guy had fun and that's all that matters He should make a little more in my opinion.
oh and btw it was more like 18 months- 20 months doing all of his work for gta4

as good as his voice acting may be no one and i mean no one is going to be compeled to buy the game because of his voice. so it dosnt matter how good he is its not going to make a diffrence to the sales. (with the exception of maybe negative sales if he completely sucked) unlike PJ the writers and actors on lord of the rings. the film is great because of them and if they were shit it would have been 2. where as its down to the devs to make GTA good so if any one should be payed on a sliding scale its them.
