I am seeing it tonight too. With a buncha friends. I'm REALLY looking forward to it.

I'll write what I think, but already some1 compared 28DL / 28WL to Alien / Aliens .

Basically saying that the first movie has the defining themes, the great characters, and the plot, and the sequel has the action.

Even if this movie is to 28DL as Aliens was to Alien, I'll be very happy. =)

I think this could possibly tide me over until L4D comes out. Hoo-rah!

28 weeks later was a real good movie, real good. Some parts were too dark, but I just say that cause I wouldve liked to see the how the infected look like some more. But it was real good. A must see, the ending was ok. But thats for me to know and you to find out.

Same, damn bastards talked me into it. And here I was going to play a full nights of Quake 4 with my 8800 GTX. (Yeah, I dont play many games so I went out yesterday finding the most graphics card taxing games I could find, Quake happened to be one of them) So far I've only played HL2/Mods, Battlefield 2 and Oblivion with this card.

Back on topic, I really hope I wont be wasting my 15 bucks tonight.

Cool how would u say it was compared to 28 days later?

The One
05-11-2007, 01:04 PM
28 days later = 5 stars
28 weeks later = 7 stars

1 being the lowest
5 being the highest
7 being 2 more than 5

I loved this movie it was sooooooooo awesome go see it it its so much better than spiderman 3

There are lots of things better than spiderman 3 so that's not much of a compliment, and I enjoyed 28 weeks later although I think 28 days was easily a better movie.

Weeks did have more infected and more chaos, which was cool, but the opening scenes are some of the best in the movie.

Bad things:
- Too Much Shaky Cam! Yes, it's chaotic, we get that. But sometimes we'd like to see the chaos rather than blurs and randomness because you were too lazy to set up proper camera work.

- Very litte character development (for the most part). 28 Days showed the characters changing and drew the audience in with it's conversations, atmosphere, and development while also being an awesome horror film. In weeks you won't find nearly as much ot the former, but way more good old fashioned surprise-horror moments and just general killing bloodiness for horror lovers. I value my well-told story over scary/bloodiness though.

- Ending just felt... weak. Yes it was justified, and I agree with the subject matter, but I think they should've somehow done it differently. I'm just too dumb to know how :(.

Thank god they're getting the original director back for months, following the ending of weeks, he could probably put together something just as awesome as Days.

If you liked the first one and are a horror and gore fan you'll want to see this.
If you liked the first one and it's ideas and want to see the continuation, this is probably worth seeing for you.
If you get vertigo or are easily nauseated by wild, senseless camera movements give this a miss and read a plot synopsis.

Went to see it last night and i couldn't agree more with FadedChaos, the movie was very chaotic reminded me a lot of Children of Men which is a very good film all on it own. Although there wasn't much character development like in Days, Weeks did have much character depth and purpose. You couldn't help but care for their triumph as they went on there quest for survival. All in all is very satisfying movie well worth the 10 bucks, I'm happy i saw it.

-Oh and i couldn't help thinking about L4D through out the whole time i was watching it! lolz

Have they already said that the next movie will be called 28 months later? Or is that assumed? Just curious...

I think that's actually think thats a really cool idea. Think about 28 years later. It's a way to see the progression of history in a world with zombies.

Think I might be going to see it tomorrow, I was going to go tonight but the flatmate bought an xbox 360 and we were too busy charging through Gears of War (it's immense, I never thought I would say that about a console FPS but it's so much fun) to go :S .

But think about the ending of the movie, that didn't happen 28 months later!

Unless it is just to signify whats going to happen.

And if you think about your post it's kinda a spoiler....

although I think 28 days was easily a better movie.

I totally agree, and I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one. I think "weeks" is a well made movie. Definitely scary, but it's a "run from the zombies" movie from beginning to end. A totally straight foreward movie. No plot twists, no real surprises (save for the zombie popping out of nowhere kind). There's really no chance to get your breath and no time to get to know/like the characters. I actually got a little bored of being scared the whole time... lol. No bits of happiness srewn about to mix things up (remember the "Irradiated" fruit shopping bit in 28 days? I loved that part).

It's a good film (all zombie fans should see it), but yeah, I like "days" better and will be happy to see Boyle take over on the next film.

No stupoider, I don't think it's by accident. By 'Proper Camera Work' I meant good angles that let you see the scene and what's happening. It's my impression that setting up a short range shot of an infected attacking someone, shaking the hell out of the camera, then cutting from short to short takes much less work than setting up a long, kickass, well-timed scene involving 50+ people and a moving camera. Think of the preface to the dance hall fight at the end of Kill Bill and you'll know what I'm talking about. More recently, Children of Men had excellent camera work as well, all throughout the movie.

Sure, shaky cam definitely deserved a place in 28 weeks, but I felt that it was overused. The first and maybe second times they use it the audience is still grossed out by the semi-visible violence and gore, but then they just end up thinking "Okay, yes the camera is shaking. No I can't really tell what's going on but it's violent. When's this bit over so we can get back to the movie?"

Of course, that might just be me. C'mon months.

bub
05-13-2007, 07:08 PM
The idea of shaky cam is to make it feel more like a documentary as opposed to a fairy tale.

I noticed it also, it didn't bother me so much. I wasn't analyzing the movie frame for frame. I only saw 28 Weeks because I thought 28 days was okay, but this time around I was waiting for L4D and had someone to see it with so I went. I did hear someone bitching about it coming out of the theatre, so I guess its "overuse" was present. I still liked the movie though, nothing compared to the cinematography in Children of Men, in my opinion one of the best filmed movies for its genre.

hooray for zombies
