Left 4 Dead by far, i have played Dead Rising and no doubt it is awesome, but i remember the first thing i asked my friend when i was playing it was, "dude does this have co-op." I think the Co-Op is what Left 4 Dead has over Dead Rising. I mean you do some pretty neat things in Dead Rising but no one is there to really see them, i mean maybe a friend sitting next to you, but that is no fun for them, having to protect one another and actually be concerned when you see your buddy fall to the ground or you get pounced by a hunter is what is going to get your adrenaline pumping. It's just that panic-e feeling you get that makes it fun, the feeling that can only be described by, "Oh god help, get them off me!" Dead Rising really never gave me that feeling.

This is kind of hard to decide, especially seeing as how L4D isn't out yet. At the risk of putting myself on the losing side of the argument, I'm going to vouch for Dead Rising here.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think Dead Rising is the epitome of Zombie gaming as we know it, but I do think that it's better than most people here are giving it credit for. It definitely has flaws (glaring ones, at that) such as the aforementioned AI and text issues, but the core gameplay is reasonably solid making it at least a decent game. Did it revolutionize the world of gaming and sweep away all forms of competition in a blinding light of perfection? No. But it did manage to deliver a good little bit of mindless fun that could be used to waste an hour or two.

If someone were to reduce this to the most basic semantic, then I suppose one could argue that the infected of L4D are in fact zombies, or at least exist in a zombified state. HOWEVER, if we employ a little common sense, when someone busts out the word "zombie", 99% of of the time they are referring to the iconic image of a shambling, reanimated corpse (jaydawg116 has made it pretty clear this was his intended usage of the word). In this respect, the infected of L4D are NOT zombies.

I thought Dead Rising was a really well made game despite its flaws. I guess what I like best is I'm not really forced to do anything in the game (in free mode. Survival mode. Whatever its called). I just turn it on, kill a few hundred zombies when I'm bored, and turn it off and go about my day when I have something better to do. I don't have to worry about progress like in other games like Ninja Gaiden or Ghost Recon, and even eventually Left 4 Dead. Just jump in, kill some shit, laugh at its ridiculousness, then jump out. Its essentially GTA, but with zombies (and set in a mall), and I like that. Its still one of my favorite games, and always enjoyed when played in moderation and not like a 6 hour marathon, because I'm quite aware when you have no objective and just have a ton of shit to kill, things can get boring fast.

So, while when Left 4 Dead comes out I'll always play it when my buddies are around, when I'm alone and don't want to play a game in which progression is a big part, I'll always come back to Dead Rising (assuming I'm in the zombie killing mood).

Why is everyone slamming Dead Rising all of the sudden? Dead Rising is nonetheless an awesome game and it's entertaining as hell. Despite how comical it is, they pulled it off, but yes.

Left 4 dead will in no doubt be better, because it's like a zombie game should be. No comical crap, intense action with one goal, get the hell out of there. That's the major point in almost all of the movies. And the whole online thing and infected game can't be matched. Of course, they aren't REALLY zobies but you get the point. L4D will be better.

Sigh. They're completely different games with completely different styles of gameplay. Each can be fun in its own way. Dead Rising is about using all sorts of different objects to mangle the undead in a variety of ways, while Left 4 Dead (groan... they actually use a number to represent the word...) is about working with three other people to wade through the undead from point to point. And no, there is no multiplayer in Dead Rising. Maybe in the sequel, though.

As much as I love Dead Rising, it does get a little repetitive after a while, especially considering i've gotten 3 perfect runs... After a while theres pretty much no replay value and survival mode is just plain screwed up. Left 4 Dead wins, due to it being just plain awesome and replayable... Although I still look forward to Dead Rising 2....
