I don't know about you guys, but it seemed to me that GoW multiplayer wasn't too popular. And unless the campaign a fair bit longer than the first one then I many people should get through GoW 2 in a few days (only took me one day to beat GoW). Once they get through it they'll wonder why they bothered buying something that they could have just rented and played for the same amount of time that they did after buying it. Then they'll get bored and check out some other new games, and find L4D.

Don't know if it'll happen exactly like that, but I think it will happen similarly to what I stated above. And I don't think L4D will fail, I don't remember much advertising for the Half Life games on Xbox, but they still did fairly good. Just my opinion though.

They can't release it earlier, period. And no one wants it to be released later. Frankly, I couldn't careless if L4D was released later for the 360, but they wanted a simultaneous release, and if the PC was delayed because of it, I'd smack you in the face.

You're assuming that the majority of the players will be on the 360, which is probably wrong granted that Valve has probably considered this, and made the release on November 4th anyway.

Client's bullets were directly delayed by their ping. You call that type of network play 'successful, fun and highly competitive'? You couldn't play GoW fairly over the internet no matter what you did. When your bullets take different amounts of time for each player to hit their targets, you've got major issues.

Here's to hoping they don't fuck up GoW2 in the exact same way.

gears of war uses server side hit detection -- the bullet delay is annoying, but it hardly kills the competition. gears of war is very skill based, regardless of the large advantage you get based on if you're host or simply how good or bad your latency is compared to another player. still, saying that gears of war online was anything but amazing and original is just hating on a great game. it brought elements of skill, competition and team work that shitty, one dimensional games like call of duty and halo could only dream of.

gears of war 2 will kill left 4 dead on the 360 in sales, there's no question about it. but who cares? valve games are pc games to begin with, that's where most of its market will be. even then, there'll still be a good amount of people on the 360 version where you'll never find yourself not able to find a room, which is all that really matters.

If you looked at last holiday's release list with games like Halo 3, Mass Effect, etc., it was a whole lot more crowded. A large portion of total game sales are done in the November-December holiday season, and if the only other big game is GoW2 it's not bad at all. I'd also think that people interested in GoW2 would be interested in another co-op shooter L4D, and would ask for both from Santa.

I have a feeling we would already be playing the game if it wasn't for Valve. Valve saw this game an decided to make it their big market offering this year. That is why its coming in November cause that's when big companies release their major titles. Yes in my meager opinion they are going to lose some sales by trying to release it at such a hot time. Everyone who truly wants to buy it (Who has the means of getting it), will have it by Christmas. Regardless of GoW2, which is a major title and rivaling L4D due to the prior GoW game, L4D will sell. It's a standalone title which has no prequel game to build itself upon like GoW2. The games are going toe to toe right now (I hate that saying. Don't ask why I used it. I just smashed my face in the keyboard. Fail) and for the most part, holidays are when many highly anticipated games are released.

Let's just hope they don't delay Prototype to Q4 2009 (Which it's already been delayed until 2009 :( )

Personally, I guess I don't mind if Left 4 Dead fails on the 360. The only people that I know will play it are people in my family, and I thats all I really need, when it comes down to it.

That out of the way, I really doubt it will fail on it. Its getting pretty big floor time at games conventions and exhibitions. I've been reading that most booths have been found empty, because people have been flocking towards the Valve/Turtle Rock booth to see Left 4 Dead in action. We already know the game will explode among the hardcore. The next is the casual market, where it really matters. Its a well known fact that people love zombies. Sessler is right when a lot of us secretly want a zombie outbreak. When they see what Left 4 Dead has to offer in its advertisement campaign, its sure to find its audience.

I really doubt there is anything to worry about.

Fable 2 and GoW2 are not on PC! Left 4 Dead will completely own the PC market on release, and the 360 players will learn from word of mouth how awesome it is. Valve may end up having post-release hype which is weird, but that's how most of their games seem to do well. The fact that their games are better once played is the reason they will always sell well especially in the long run.

Remember how Diablo 2 is still played to this day by plenty of people as well as CS1.6? Left 4 Dead is that kind of game and will last a long, long time, so word of mouth about 1 month after it releases will boost it ahead of everything! *and there was much rejoicing*

Yes, GoW2 will beat L4d in sales because it is, let's face it, GoW2. This means nothing in terms of quality. I'd like to think that Valve makes games for our benefit, not their benefit. Fans will buy L4D and have a better time with it than any fanboy could have with GoW2.

I don't understand. Both formats have pretty much the same &quot;controls&quot;. There's buttons to press, and something you move to look around.
Well, I guess I could understand someone getting intimidated by all the keys on a keyboard, but you aren't using most of them when playing an FPS.
Well, I'm a console and PC gamer, so I can use anything from keyboard+mouse to controller to Wiimote to arcade stick. None of them are hard, you just have to get use to it (which shouldn't take too long anyway).

Every console has stuff to worry about. They aren't indestructible. I don't have a 360 so I can't fairly make any claims, but we all know the news on so many 360 users with their problems with the system.

For PC, of course there's stuff to worry about. There ain't anything in this world that's worry-free, so just like everything else you just have to learn to deal with it. PC &quot;worries&quot; are extremely easy to rid of as Waterboy posted. As long as you treat your PC right, it will bring no problems, and if you treat it badly, it'll give you issues. (same can be said for consoles, right?).

What you're likely having an issue with is the fact that the PC is for the more hardcore and intelligent gamer; I'm sure I don't need to go into detail on how deep a gaming system the PC is. Consoles are geared towards the regular everyday normal guy. Simply put, these people have a bit of difficulty understanding the PC, so they dislike it, and favor something they're familiar with. A very common human trait.

Okay, I've said this in another forum and I will say it here.... VALVE PICKED THEIR RELEASE FIRST!(sorry for caps but that point had to be put across)Now, onto my next point...I bet that GOW2 will be delayed at least a few months if not a stock year. The first game was thought of as a single game even if there was hope they'd get to make a sequel. I'd assume that there was a stocked year after that that they were even considering making a sequel based on the game maybe less considering sales but it was half a year minimum okay... then I'd say there was be a year or so of concept right, then several months of concept, another year for making new models for enemies, a year for the map design and creation then around this point you start making demos and such of only the most prime level examples. Then they need to spend months polishing and such on not only the levels but also the combat systems and all the different animations. While maybe a year is shaved off this process by having a preset engine, a good part of that is reimmbursed by the fact that they have to modify it to fit the much larger scale of Gears 2. I am anxious for Gears 2 but I don't think that it'll sell any consoles because most people know it'll come to PC anyway, and with more content. End statement, GOW is aimed at a completely different market then L4D, L4D will be bought by everyone who wanted Alone in the Dark to be good and GOW will be bought by all the PWNing, FTW!ing Xbox Fanboys. I do not mean to say Gears 2 will be a bad game, but they are made for different markets. Gears has a good name going for it but L4D has the Valve name behind it, the name famous for Half-Life, TF2 and Portal, Gears will not overshadow L4D to anyone who wants it. Also, GOW2 will not be bought by anyone who didn't buy Gears 1 no matter what okay... no argument.... L4D will definitely get some good trailer space, and then there's the mere factor of online media... oh trust me they will this game is not gonna last long, GoW2 that is, Left 4 Dead is gonna spread extremely fast with the friend list system and game speaking plus 360 really have to worry about are the system failures which i havent had once =D
