Looks like a big Combine structure. Could well be another citadel. Yay for concept art, but it doesn't tell that much. An appearance at E3, that would be nice. :D

PC Gamer wrote a short news post, bringing to our attention, that they have posted a piece of concepot art before and are showing off a new one (http://www.gamesradar.com/pc/half-life-2-episode-three/preview/the-first-concept-art-from-half-life-2-episode-three/a-20080710155756131049/g-20080710154921839018) aswell. Yes, they used the Borealis and traveled in-between games! Then gordon and the Chief teamed up to destroy the Advisor, who has killed the prophets. Also, the flood got their ass kicked by the headcrabs, cause they're fuckin copies. Originals > copies.

It's entirely possible that it could be the Combine Overworld, they made a portal to Earth didn't they? Why can't Earth do the same? (Althought I wouldn't see the point as it would simply give them another gateway back to Earth) Whatever the case, i'm sure it would kick ass.

Since Aperture Science were the one who built whatever is on the Borealis, it's most likely portal technology (I think). That's why they have to destroy it, so the Combine cannot make use of it, like they did at Black Mesa during the Resonance Cascade.

Thinking back now, it wasn't the Combine who opened the portal was it? It was Black Mesa... so I don't think they would have anyway to open another portal unless they had some sort of help from the other side, which is very unlikely.

(Edit: Just saw the second piece of concept art... thats ice. To the arctic it is! What ever Aperture Science has in the Borealis, it's big.)

Well, I think it was the Gman who gave the crystal to Dr.Breen, causing the first portals to open and inviting all kinds of alien scum to earth. I don't know where he fits in at all.

God, I'm so eager to find out about to what kind of closure the series will come.

I was under the impression that EP3 was aboard the Borealis... it would be slightly odd if one part was in the Borealis and then it kinda made a big leap to another locale... in general any big jump between places has signaled an end to a game, essentially you get to each local on foot or in a car. Maybe aboard the Borealis there is an Aperture portal (eh, eh?) to Xen? Maybe? Maybe?

EDIT: Posted that without reading the last few posts. Anywho, heres my idea. After the events in Portal, Aperture makes a portal to the Overworld as competitors to Black Mesa. Mesa fails, Aperture is victorious. Except the Borealis goes missing. So, big ass portal to the Overworld aboard the ship. Kleiner sees the opportunity to go and activate it and take the fight into the Overworld and destroy the combine (Concept art?), which explains all the disagreements between Eli, who wishes to keep it sealed lest Gordon is to fail and let even more Combine Ruler/Advisor type people come through. I think this kinda explains that whole bit with Eli and Kleiner right before the end of EP2. Maybe. and oh yeah,
