Bleach
I watch this pwns Naruto in my opinion. Too many people like Naruto for it to be ANY good. And theres one in fifty episodes thats anywhere near decent. The only I remember worth watching was that fight with 3 Tails Naruto and super effed up Sasuke at the giant lake. Bleach is awesome.
Never heard of Elfen Lied, I heard Berserk was really awesome from a lot of people though, never got to watching it, mostly because I forget everytime I get home. A girl actually recommended the show to me, some blonde chick on the cheer team so I was like, oh yeah must be good she watches it.
Cowboy Bebop is a classic, its amazing, the first anime I got into (not liked our watched) but it was the first worth ever going to school and saying "Omg you guys seen Cowboy Bebop" Vampire Hunter D is okay, the main character (Alucard unless im thinking of another anime) is too strong from the get go, doesn't leave it open for much character dynamics pretty much "Im a vampire, and I pwn"
Dragonball GT sucked, Dragonball Z was good at the start of the Cell Saga, mainly because of the new artist (which is current artist) but the old artist before Cell saga was terrible. You can literally see the huge difference between the two sagas.

Death Note and Code Geass,
OH yeah, forgot about Death Note, Im sure Devil May Cry will be one of my fav animes, it comes out in june made by the same guys as deathnote. Based on my favorite action game too.
Full Metal Alchemist I also forgot, simply a favorite. Princess Monoke was the first anime movie I watched, I still like it even after like 9 years.
I wanted to see Appleseed for a while, but couldn't get a hand on it so I forgot it.
Wow, im hearing thunder for the first time in years.

Maybe it's because I'm not a traditional anime lover, but I found elfen lied to be nothing more than monotonous bloodshed without any real character depth or story of interest. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I really liked samurai champloo because it was the complete opposite, no gratuitous violence (even though it's present), really well choreographed fights, and truly memorable characters and story.

samurai champloo is my friends favorite. I dont like it though, animation looks old.
hooray for zombies
05-18-2007, 10:43 AM
I've only seen a couple episodes of Samurai Champloo, but I like all the ones I saw.
Just on this note: I'm not really an anime devotee, I watch anime very casually without really following it closely

I think Elfen Lied had alot of depth to it! You must have not gotten it. I is how the cruelty and coldness of people can drive someone to madness and how if you are loved and protected you grow up happy loving and kind. Nana though grew up the way she did felt loved . While Nyu/Lucy grew up in a horrible unkind environment. It is alot on sociology also!

Elaborate. Do they show graphs pertaining to the demography of Japan, or what?
I'm still following the Berserk manga as it's been chugging along the last 15 years with a supposed 20 more volumes needed to finish the series off at a total of 50. I have the anime TV series of it, but it's so drastically butchered from the manga it really doesn't do the series or characters justice. A new anime series of Berserk would end up running hundreds of episodes if they actually wanted to cover all the stuff from the manga including going back into the original series and putting in entire volumes worth of content they removed.
Also I would highly recommend the manga Battle Royale. Based on the book and movie of the same name. I actually liked the manga better than the original book. Very very graphic, but it's still pretty tame compared to full 10 volume run of Koroshiya 1 which became the Japanese cult classic film Ichi The Killer. I personally preferred the manga to the movie.
The last anime series I watched and enjoyed was Last Exile. If you're a fan of Final Fantasy and Xenogears the series has a definite Squaresoft vibe to it. My brother recently got me onto the series Death Note but I have yet to watch it.
As far as films.
AKIRA
Ghost in the Shell
The Professional Golgo 13
The Professional Golgo 13: Queen Bee
Appleseed (Original movie not CGI sequel)
Venus Wars
The Wings of Honneamise
Princess Mononoke
Fist of the North Star
First of the North Star revival trilogy
Project Ako 1, 2, 3, Greyside, Blueside
Dirty Pair: Project Eden
Patlabor 1, 2, 3
The Ultimate Teacher
Vampire Hunter D
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
Dominion Tank Police
New Dominion Tank Police
Silent Mobius
Neo Tokyo
Wicked City
Ninja Scroll
Crying Freeman
Wow, actually I'll stop there because I can keep on naming numerous films I've collected over the last ten years.

Except it was (probably unintentionally) portrayed in a poorly executed way with hamfisted, badly developed characters with all the gratuitous bloodshed serving only to distract from the main point (if there even was one). There was nothing subtle about it, nothing that would even hint that the creator possessed any artistic vision or skill to dream up something that could be appreciated as "deep", except to maybe your typical high-schooler picking up catcher in the rye for the first time.
Believe me, I "get it", I just wish I could give it back.

Where do we start. All the characters are sociopathic. Like Shinji, wacks off to Asuka right AFTER he goes insane and throttles the hell out of her and sees a boobie. All the teenage characters have a relationship thats extremely fucked, none of the older characters do anything about it. The one lady has sex with a drug dealer and the show pretty much implies he puts a pill in her vagina or something so its "kinky" wierd shit with the plot pretty much someones sister is also their daddy kind of thing.

Ghost in the Shell is pretty awesome, if you can manage to follow it. I only get to watch it on Adult Swim which airs far too late for me to watch constitently while not sleeping through school.
