wtf you crazy dude... you've just ordered two physx cards. The 8800gtx has a physx processor built in, and its better then the one you've just gone and ordered. Plus the 8800 takes up 2 PCI slots, so unless you have an 8* PCI slot free... its pretty much useless.
BTW, that intel quad core is going to be out dated by AMD in about 2 months.. thought i should just mention that... hell, even the dual cores their about to release could take on the intel quad core.
So brief summary...
You've just wasted 200 pound on a physx accelerator that wont even work as the 8800 already has one, and you've gone and bought a quad core which can only perform 30 frames better then its dual core counter part. Sure... its one seriously cool system, but a complete waste of money when you consider that ATI is about to release a serious DX10 card causeing 8800 prices to fall by more then $100, and AMD is about to release barcelona and a new line of dual cores which will also decrease intels prices.

You've got a 1066mhz FSB yet your only running 667mhz DDR2 ram!! Get it upgraded before its built and shipped, it won't cost very much more for faster Ram.
What motherboard are you using?
DON'T get home premium, get Vista ultimate.

theres no differense between home premium and ultimate.... besides... who wants to pay for office 2007 anyway... why pay when u can use 2003 for free.

Sometimes it gets to a point where you have to just realize that no matter what you wait for theres always something else coming around the corner with this stuff. I know that thats been something squerl and I have both been dealing with and he just bit the bullet and upgraded. I'll be doing the same shortly.
I would be concerned about the physx card

Hopefully Unreal 3 will put the PhysX card to good use.

your right in saying that theres always something waiting around the corner... and that there isnt really a "right time" to a buy/upgrade a pc. But there are stages where technology leaps. We face one every year or so. This year, its quad core technology, and it just so happens that AMD are going to start it off. These leaps, in my opinion, is the best time to buy/upgrade a pc. Mainly because, older products will fall in price. For example, when the 8800gtx was first released, a lot of people bought it, as it was the best, and still is the best. But now, as its been months since the 8800 series was put on sale, its not very wise to buy it, as that "something round the corner" is looming, and will seriously decrease the price of the 8800. Wouldnt you kick yourself if you bought the 8800gtx now for £420, when in about 2 months, it will be £300.

unreal 3 will put a physix processor to good use... not that card. The physixs processer is on the 8800gtx board. That physix card (although it has a processer *obviously* isnt really needed as i have already said.

I like Nvidia and Intel. I had ATI and I didn't like it that much. The only difference I see in AMD is the price.

Probably 120 for L4D, it runs CS:S at 200... everything on high. My computer is slightly different though, I have AMD X2 and im trying to figure out how to SLi my video cards, quite the hastle. Especially on Vista, very hard to navigate once you've been on XP for like 4 years. I just began installing Vista yester-yesterday, needless to say it didn't go well, had to totally wipe EVERYTHING from my computer, which wasn't much a couple games, few programs but stilll annoying. I got it up and running yesterday, but then my internet gets screwed up and I cant even download drivers for my video/sound card :( I was sad. It's fixed now though, updating both as we speak.
Sucks to start from scratch. Btw, where'd you order from?
I don't really cared about money sooo.. I buy when I see someting shinier than my stuff. What card is ATi comnig up with? Are you talking about the XTX?

this pc i ordered is the Dell XPS 710 Red (red because its not liquid cooled i guess i wish it were blue but i dont want to spend the 3 grand for the liquid cooling that will allow for overclocking that i wont do, just for a blue faceplate and LEDs)
as for the physX card, thanks for the info, i ordered it from new egg and ill return it also. did not know there was one built into the 8800GTX, As for ATI... Ive heard all kinds of stuff about ATI cards. and ive heard there are problems with their cards as of late. of course the fanboys will deny it and i couldnt tell you much more than that. ive never used an ATI card, ive had several Nvidia cards and they all worked fine for me. so im just sticking to what i know and feel comfortable with i guess. as for AMD processors and such. IBM has 5ghz processors out as of last tuesday (unless im mistaken which is possible because i dont feel like researching right now). apple has an 8 core in the works. intel ive heard is working on a 6ghz processor and higher. technologies ive noticed and anyone who is "oldschool" should also be noticing , are becoming outdated at increasing speeds. dual core was out a year before quad came out, only a year where as typically the rule of thumb is two years before its obsolete. and now new processor speeds are doubling, then those will be put into multi core systems and the cycle continues the way i figure it now is ill get 2-3 years out of this rig. ill have all the gear ill need really until it breaks. and if my pc becomes outdated i can replace the mobo or processors, upgrade the memory, and buy 2x 9000 or 10000 series GF cards and SLI them.
would i be upset if in two months they come out with the 9000 series? maybe a little but to my understanding there really isnt anything out right now that pushes the 8800 to its limit. while i could be stressing over the fact that someone out there might have gotten my card a little cheaper thats always the case with any item. as frogopus said, there comes a time where you just have to bite the bullet, otherwise ill just be in a perpetual state of waitingness that i just dont want to be in. ive been a gamer since i was 8, and ive always wanted to have a true gaming rig. and soon as it gets here i will, so im happy as can be.
as for the old PC, its a P4 3.07 ghz, 120 gb hd, 1gb ram, GF 6800, ill probably give it to my sister or something, havnt really decided.
as for price , i spent roughly 4k

erm... console ports stress the 8800 to its limit btw... mainly because their so rubbishly coded... great for glitch hunters... bad for gameplay, due to immense lagg and buggs.
Take Lost Planet as an excelent example... the 8800gtx can just get 20 frames with everything maxed.
The 9 series is coming out in the fourth quarter by the way. Thoughs 5ghz processors your on about are server CPU's so they wouldnt be much good in a desktop. Intels quad core which is in the works is also for servers/workstations, and will be released in October, the desktop quad core will not be seen until next year. AMD however will be releasing their desktop quad core in September at the latest.
ATI's 2900XT is very cheap, and is meant to compete against the 8800gts. When the drivers have been imporved, the 2900 will easily beat the 8800gts due to its immense technology advantage. The 2900XTX is going to be released later this year, and will be competing against nvidia's 8800 ultra... knowing very well that ATI will steam roller that card, Nvidia will either launch their back-up plan of the 8900 series... or move straight into the 9 series.
Its quite a line-up in technology.... but i promise you, once games are using the shader models which DX10 support, the Nvidia and ATI cards will have their work cut out to produce decent frame rates... Gaming is going to get very exciting after Septemeber... and im going to be poor because theirs about 10 games i like the look of, and a lot more which im finding every day.

Allow me to elucidate a few things.
The reason the Lost Planet demo runs so poorly (for you, I get an average FPS of 50) is most likely due poor optimization. You see, the demo has hardly been optimized for PCs at all. Hell, the bloody interface is still that of the 360! ("Press B to pick up"? What the?)

Nope, it's pretty much the same for everyone. Nvidia is working on it, though...

Joking aside, it evens out if you ask me. We get sexy electronics prices, while you guys get those awesome accents...

your brain only really can process 30 frames a second as stated before anything over that will not be noticeable.

Ninja says its 72 frames a second. interesting. if its that high i would think i would notice the low frame rate in movies more.

Wait.. if we can only process 30 fps then why does it matter if we get more fps on games?
Because framerates below 60 give rise to sluggish movement while playing. Seriously, have you never noticed this?
Edit: also, consider the fact that in motion pictures, the framerate is constant; that is, it's 30 FPS throughout.
