View Full Version : PC vs. 360? Pros and Cons
Waiting4TheOutbreak

As my first topic on here (i just joined, although i've been visting the site for a while) I wanted to know why people prefer PC over 360 or vice versa. Feel free to share your opinions! I personally might get it for both, since it's going to be so awesome!
PC:
-Free online
-Cheaper price
-More online players in the long run
-Faster Controls(mouse and movement keys)
-Lots of mods, maps, and the like
Xbox 360:
-Better graphics/visuals
-More of online players at the release, especially if it is very anticipated (like Halo 3)
-Easier to use controls (all in a small contoller, compared to a larger keyboard)
-More accessible online via Xbox Live
-Voice chat for more effective teamwork

How is a 360 controller 'easier to use' than a mouse and keyboard for a FPS?
And how does the Xbox 360 version have better graphics..?
And how is Xbox Live more accessible to use than Left 4 Dead's own Steam server browser?
And why the fuck does everyone assume there will be no voice communication on the PC version of Left 4 Dead, even though it is in every other source game?
Did you even think before making this thread...? If you've been around any length of time, you would've known that making a thread like this is basically starting a console vs. pc war. Not only that, but clearly you don't know what you're talking about.

1# you still have to pay for you internet (service provider)
2# The PC isnt cheaper than console since you need to upgrade it (GFX, Ram, mobo, etc) and console you just buy the game and your set.

There are only two real differences as I see it.
and that is going to be Gamepad vs. Keyboard and mouse.
and modding.
So it boils down to which you prefer. If you like Gamepads get the 360, if you like mice get the PC.
Also modding for the PC which you can't really do on the 360
Personally I'll be getting the PC, mostly becuase I suck horrendous balls with gamepads in FPSs.
Uhm, what you'r saying about the 360 is nearly the same as the PC and vice versa.
Steam works perfectly for online games, I haven't had any problems finding any games, there's voice chat on PC and the graphics will be the same (or worse on 360). The controls may be easier as you said but still I don't think it will be easier gameplay wise (thinking about aiming, unless they use auto-aim). Players on release, hmm, you may be right on that one, still the mod community is really big withing the Source Engine so people might just get it for the PC so they can mod it.
None of these are facts.

I actually prefur a controller over a mouse and key board any day.
There was a lan place here and they had the Pc vs 360 challenge with shadowrun. they turned the auto aim off for shadowrun for the 360 and I was on the 360 team, and we recked the PC guys. well some of us did most of the 360 teams got raped, but i found out that some people are just better with the controller than a mouse and key board, and visea versa. its all about opinion. and the over all skill of the gamer, neither is better.

-Well for me, XBL will be more accessable because, for some reason, I can't seem to join my friends servers. It says the server is not responding.
-Thay have said that the graphics will be the same.
and
-The controls will depend on personal preference. I know a few pc gamers who use a 360 pad instead of using the mouse and keyboard, but instead of playing on the 360, they play on the pc because of mods and for God knows what other reasons. Never really understood why, besides not wanting to buy another platform.
However, once I get a better pc, I'll be buying L4d for pc because of the mods.

Okay. Most of these things are strange, and the list just doesn't make very much sense. The only real thing you should really consider between the PC and 360 at this point are
1) Do you want to pay $50 a year for the live service for a 360?
2) Do you like using twin joysticks over using mouse/keyboard?
Oh, and just to clarify - I can almost guarantee the PC release will have more players at release and in the long run, not only because its an FPS game on the PC, but because steam will advertise it like hell.
One more thing, both 360 and PC have voice chat support.

1# you still have to pay for you internet (service provider)
and on the 360 you need to pay for internet (service provider) PLUS xbox live. Me being an idiot and owning both, a 360 and PC pay for xbox live even though I don't game on it as much anymore...
anyway, this list was not thought over well. The 360 is MUCH cheaper then a PC. The PC has much better (or the same in some cases) graphics then a 360. On a PC you can even change how you want the graphics, on the 360 you can't. Mods are also on the PC making games timeless. On the 360 it's buy the game, beat it, play it online, get pissed off at a 9 year old who sounds like micky mouse telling you that your balls haven't dropped yet, then stop playing the game entirely.

This guy has the right idea. People seriously need a reality check, it's a GAME. Not a matter of someone being better than the other. I merely wanted some educated opinions, not people exploding when I say 360 has better overall graphics for crying out loud.

PC does basically everything a XBox 360 can. Just better.
PC has better graphics, that's for sure. PC has free internet. Mouse & Keyboard combo is great in FPS, and you can use the XBox 360 control in some PC games, if they allow it. Just like on the 360, if you don't have a mic, you don't have voice chat. The game's are worth a lot more on PC due to the fact that you can download mod's and new maps at anytime for free. Updates don't have a price tag on PC either.
The conclusion is, PC wins.

1. Eh it depends on the game.
2. true a game like this is gonna be major for this console
3. cant agree with that but i find it easier, Keyboard and Mouse more accurate but not easier.
4. True but xbox live u have to pay for but its all worth it( i dont have to pay so its all good)
5.Voice chat over a 360 is hard because of lil kids screaming and breathing into their mics. So go for Pc for that kind of chatting UNLESS ur gonna play with a friend so id do private chat =D
But yea im getting it for both =D but 360 first only cause its easier for me

I hate playing games on the pc cuz mine ain't built to run stuff like games.
So, yeah, XBOX FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PC:
Better graphics.
Depends on a person's PC. Isn't really fair to say the PC version will have better graphics. Sure it 'can' have better graphics but everyone is assuming everyone is running a high end gaming PC rig and therefore guffawing at the mere mention of someone bothering to game on a console.
That's one advantage I will give to the consoles. When a game is made for a console you don't have to worry about driver problems, installation conflicts and graphical glitches as a result of using a video card that isn't friendly with the game. You don't have to worry about tweaking the settings to try and get the game to run optimally as the game will be designed with the intent of running properly on a consoles static hardware.
And doesn't the 360 support a mouse and keyboard yet? Sony has supported a mouse and keyboard since the PS2 days.

Lol @ Thread. You realize OP, that you're meant to do Pros AND Cons, as suggested by your topic title. Here's an example using L4D:
PC Pros:
- Leading platform in development, entirely done by Valve South.
- More precise controls with the mouse, and easier controls with the keyboard.
- Better built-in voice communication.
- Community content.
: In the form of mini-server mods to total conversions. New maps by the shitloads, and other miscellaneous content. Garry's Mod possibilities, new skins, weapons, new game modes, game types, bosses, survivors, infected given Source engine and SDK possibilities. Etc.
: This may also include, if it's what anyone in the community aspires to: creating better graphics, audio, etc. As well as customize your settings more freely
- STEAM capabilities.
: In the form of STEAM itself, along with online purchase, and instant, easy patching. Faster patching AND UPDATES. Updates in general seeing as how they barely even come for Console versions. STEAM Match-making and services, and other stuff they're including with L4D release, ON STEAM. STEAM Cloud.
- Overall general PC familiarity. And potential to run other applications like fraps, Ventrilo, TS, etc. While playing the game.
- Assuming a cheaper retail price.
Cons:
- Virtually none.
- Many people do not have the rig to play L4D on highest. But Console supporters will deny that buying one will cost only $500 to $700, and is in general, a better investment than a console. (Given that it's a PC)
-------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------
Xbox 360 Pros:
- Virtually none.
- Buy for this console for preference or if you don't have the rig to play it at all. Or if your friends don't have the rig to play it.
- Split-screen.
Cons:
- Less precise controls with gamepads, less keys for binds and other commands.
- No community content.
- Slower patches and updates, if they ever come.
- No STEAM services.
- Xbox Live Community. (Not my point, you guys brought it up, not me)
- Assuming more expensive purchase.
- No benefit to purchasing it for this console.
Xbox 360 Pros:
- Virtually none.
- Buy for this console for preference or if you don't have the rig to play it at all. Or if your friends don't have the rig to play it.
And the availability of console exclusive titles.

Actually, try something more like a $1, 000 + for a brand new HDTV. Yeah, good graphics are definitely easier to achieve on a PC, as long as you buy one with a decent video card you're pretty much set.

I go onto the interwebz and argue that the 360 is the best thing invented since sliced bread. I've never been able to experience a modern PC game because my computer is so shitty. All I can do is complain that it sucks but I can't do anything about it because I can't buy a new one :-[ So therefore without the knowledge of computers that makes the 360 the best thing in the world. He was talking about the actual game, being about 10 dollars less.
Also, If you know where to get the parts, the PC can be arguably less expensive (it lasts you longer, gives you other options) than a console because of the TV and other controllers, but this really varies from person-to-person, and if you have a 360 already and not a suitable PC then getting it for the 360 would be a good move.
Also, do you think you'll be able to use the 360 controller on the PC like in other games? That kind of ends the better controls argument regardless of what side you're on.
Hopefully I added something to the discussion.

personaly im a pc player because things as they are, i can afford a great top end pc. Hopefully i will be able to continue upgrading my pc in the future, but if not i'll be returning to console gaming.
even though console version wont be up to par with the pc version, it will still generally be the same game and the best game on the 360 when it arrives:D
pc ftw though;)

I get all mine from Newegg, and unless you don't buy a very good PC... it actually is more. Mine was 716$.
Btw, Newegg has the best deals, and price. soo...
But calling a console better than a PC is just... dumb. I mean, the entire reason the Consoles were invented was too make sure gaming reached all audiences, even ones with less technical experience. They are just dumbed down children of the PC.

I think it can't be said that one IS better or worse than the other. If you have a PC with good graphics card and ability to run this game well, get it for PC. On the other hand, and this is my situation, I already have a 360 and a big screen TV and a ton of friends on XBL that won't be as likely to play it on PC. So, for me, this is a 360 game, but if i had a better computer and more friends that would get this on PC, then i would probably rather get it on that for all the mods and stuff.

Xbox 360:
-Better graphics/visuals
-More of online players at the release, especially if it is very anticipated (like Halo 3)
-Easier to use controls (all in a small contoller, compared to a larger keyboard)
-More accessible online via Xbox Live
-Voice chat for more effective teamwork
This is just a bunch of bullshit and everything written there are Wrong

What have we learned from this thread?
1. Waiting4TheOutbreak is a supertroll who has no idea what the FUCK he's talking about.
2. It is VERY easy to start a PC v. 360 war.
3. A lot of people don't know the pros and cons between the two (a lot of us do though)
4. Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.
My conclusion:
PC wins in almost every way, but you can play l4d on 360 if you want, no matter to me!
And how can we forget the one truly defining factor between the two:
PC=porn
360=no porn

Nah I think I would use this if I was REALLY desperate :D

Here's the cons for this
-Graphics are stable so you can enjoy your game.
-Even if its anticipated, it doesn't mean it will do well.
-I personally favor the keyboard and mouse because you can bind keys and what not.
-Its not more accessible because you have to pay for it lol.
-There's voice chat and voice command for your players on the PC.
My conclusion is that there are more PRO's for PC :D

PC:
-Free online
-Cheaper price
-More online players in the long run
-Faster Controls(mouse and movement keys)
-Lots of mods, maps, and the like
Xbox 360:

-More of online players at the release, especially if it is very anticipated (like Halo 3)
-Easier to use controls (all in a small contoller, compared to a larger keyboard)

-Voice chat for more effective teamwork
PC:
#1 - True, you don't have to pay for online play. (Except to a fast ISP)
#2 - Most XBOX 360 games are more expensive then PC ones.
#3 - That varies.
#4 - Varies on skills and preferences.
#5 - True, XBOX 360 doesn not have any/much custom material.
XBOX 360:
#1 - <(-.-)>
#2 - Again, it will vary depending how good the game is.
#3 - Again, skills and preferences.
#4 - I don't see how PC online isn't much more accessible then XBOX Live
#5 - PC has that too.

Really?
So you're thinking that they're going to remove the only quick method of communication because there aren't enough buttons. Which I gather there are. And also happens to be built in to the game itself, a game which happens to focus on team work and cooperation?
I mean...
Jump, Crouch, Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, Look, Move, Use and Cycle Up/Down are 10 'buttons'
There are 12 not including the analog sticks and middle buttons. If I recall correctly.

If im correct there's not enough buttons because there is more than one of those menu things and that its only gonna support headset. Again im going on a whim and thinking its from a past interview with one of the developers. We can only tell when it comes out or if we do reasearch or just plain ask Mike.

What?
There's a non-verbal communication tool, built-in... That only supports people with a headset.
Counter-productive don't you think?
Even with whatever the hell you were saying, it still supports enough buttons for two comma roses. 4 if the analogs sticks are push-downs like the Dualshock. I don't remember.
Not to mention if item-cycling goes on the D-pad, still 2 free buttons there. As well as possibly 3 buttons on the XYBA.
Which is enough.

Xbox 360 is for people who want it
simple......like me.
its more difficult on the 360 than the pc cause pc keyboard and mouse makes ur playing alot easier while on the 360 u sit there and turn and react alot slower which is alot more difficult. So 360 is alot more harder than the pc. 360=Pros big time cause they need to know when to react at the right time, while Pc u can react at anytime. thats y im getting it for both but when i get l4d for pc im gonna get a controller to play so i dont suck lol =D

Im sorry I looked at a xbox360 controller and there's actually 16 different buttons. Here's the order, "LT,LB,RT,RB,Y,X,B,A,Left Analog Stick,Inwards Left Analog Stick, Right Analog Stick, Inwards Right Analog Stick, Up,Down,Left,Right Directional Pad." And I counted the Analog movement sticks as one also. I guess it might be on the xbox360 version.

Dontleave, I disagree with your pricing of the computer. The average joe is not going to be able to find a tower for 500 dollars that is capable of running this game at all. For 2g of ram and a decent processor you are looking at probably 7-8 hundred dollars at least. Then you have to buy a video card as well.
And don't feed me the "build your own computer crap" - because 90% of people who buy this game won't have a custom machine.
For most people, the best economical choice is a cheapy computer (or laptop) and an xbox. This gives them the best of both worlds.

Which leads me back to meh point. Consoles are for people with little tech knowledge, and not as much money.
