Does anyone know if there will be matchmaking ala Halo 3 where you just randomly join a game and play with 3 kids you don't know or do you have to play with your friends? Or will there be server listings and you can play with random people and invite your friends to that game? Thanks.

If I remember correctly, yes, there is matchmaking similar in ways to Halo 3.

360 info page (http://www.left4dead411.com/left-4-dead-xbox-360)
yes. there will be some sort of match making. the guy that did the matchmaking for halo 3 is working on this project.
you can join in a game in progress and play with 3 random people. you can do system link with 4 360's and do 8 players that way. im sure you can do the normal "invite friend to game" thing. and im sure you will be able to see your friends playing, and join them, assuming theres not already 8 people playing in a game.

There should be a filter that stops me from joining games filled with whiny kids.

The matchmaking for halo 3 is nice but it takes for freaking ever, even with the update. I hope l4d's will be quicker.

can't you ever just answer a question and not be a stupid idiot about it?
I heard there would be both Matchmaking and Server joining.
Kind of like Halo 3. You make a custom game that all your friends can join, or you go into matchmaking and join with random people. Although, it would be nice if you could browse for the game you want and possibly use Valve's servers to host your own.

You will find yourself with 12 year old kids on the comp all the same just get some friends to play with you instead of joining random servers (you can always leave if you dont want to play with them.)

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping it would be both server based (ie: custom games) and matchmaking like Halo3, CoD4, etc. Sounds excellent. Can't wait to play!

I don't think I'll be using the matchmaking system.
Left 4 Dead just isn't that kinda game where you just join 4 random people from around the globe to play a game that's relying on some kind of a basic trust to get from point A to point B and from there to point C... etc. IMO.
Sure you could meet a few good guys and players thru the matchmaking, but the little whiners just are too big a nuisance to ignore.
That's why this game should be a tad more difficult than it SOUNDS like now. I'm all-in for loads of server options, like respawning, ammo... etc.
Of course this is speculation, 'cuz only a handful of us have gotten the priviledge to play this game.
But hey, it's only a little more than a one-and-a-half-months away. So I guess the time for wishful thinking and the community's ideas is over.

I hope l4d's will be quicker.i'm no expert *gasp* but i'm guessing it will be quicker because there are less factors to consider (rank/skill etc.). to my knowledge the only variable is your reputation with ppl you've played with previously. i don't think this would effect wether or not your placed in any given lobby but wether or not those in the lobby will want to keep you. so the less of a jackass (i.e. 12 year olds [with the exception of Morningsup of course]) you are the quicker you get to slay zombies.

And sorta off-topic; Why on Halo 3's system did it say "24 Games Found, 3 Possible Matches".
Isn't that kind of a slap in the face from Bungie? "Yeah, we found a bunch of games, but you can only join like... 3."
/rantACULAR
But besides that, Halo 3's Matchmaking is good. I honestly prefer it over CoD4's.
