a brand spankin new fps

what would you guys recommend i should do with this 50$ i just got, im looking to get a new fps but im not that sure which one to get, i know there are reviews and movies for them but they never compare them, so i would just like to know, would you guys get battlefield 2(single or expansions too) battlefield 2142, or should i look into some strategy games and such.
just assume my pc can handle all of them k?

Never realy liked the BF series, but if u do, 2142 is probly your best bet.

2142 will grab your attention for longer because of the ranks and unlocks. Plus, the squad system is a very valuable addition and rewards the players for playing as a team. Oh and you can actually have a friends list. Pods and titans are quite cool too. I played both games but I liked 2142 much better.

I guess it depends on a number of things. In 2142 you won't find really fast planes, so if your style of play involves getting into one and dominate the round from above get BF2, but if you like infantry and cool gadgets (partial invisibility, defending turrets) get 2142.


Have you given a shot (pun not intended) to Painkiller? It's one of my favorite games ever and you can find it at a ridiculously low price.

If you haven't played FEAR you should definitely go for that. Awesome single and multi player. There's a demo if you're not sure.

Otherwise I'd go for one of the Battlefields as well. I'm a sucker for the Titan mode in 2142.

Actually, I think the multiplayer aspect is completely free, you just have to download the client. That will give you a basic idea of the graphics and the combat system, but the strong point of the game is definitely the single player portion.

What about FarCry? Graphics are still nice and it is BOTH long and fun.

Also, if you have counter strike, don't get soldier front, it's a clone of cs and is not as good. It has some rpg stuff, but not enough to make it better

If you're planning on getting 2142, you should really play the demo of both 2142 and 2 first. They're both great games, but I think 2 is just a better game.

The graphics may be outdated, but the art direction never dies. Of course, with a system like yours, I doubt you'd appreciate plebeian concepts such as "art direction" and "lighting".

If that's all you care about, you'll be happy to know that an update will be released in conjunction with Ep2, adding HDR, Phong shading, etc.

Call of Juarez is AWESOME! I know that it released for 360, pretty sure the PC version is out. The only problem I had with this game is the same problem I have with most FPSers...you can beat most of them in a good 6-7 hours. The only problem I have with the Battlefield series is the friggin' loading times are awful!! Once you get in though it is fun, wether BF2 or 2142, there really arent any different basic concepts of gameplay. Both games are also really rewarding if you get with a good squad and commander, but thats few and far between.
nemesis; GoW is a 3rd person shooter anyhow, and as fun as that game can be, it really lacks depth(but hey, how much depth do you need when chainsawing someone's head open). All I've gotta say people; FALLOUT 3, FALLOUT 3, FALLOUT 3....

I've played around with BF2 recently and I much prefer 2142. That could be that I am just tired of WWI and WWII games. Sci fi/fantasy will always be my genre.

Graphics have never played a big role with me. I only have a PC and i run games with a 9600 Pro. You'd probably cry if you saw graphics on my computer.

HL2 did have a great art direction, and decent lighting... there were better games at its release that outstripped HL2. It's lighting isn't anything special anymore now that I've played STALKER.

Ep2 has way better technologies, a lot im looking forward to seeing in L4D, mods, Valves other games etc. And way better lighting, casting dynamic shadows and stuff, you know. Plus a giant mine/ant lion hive in my opinion is way cooler than Ravenholm... I just hope they have more &quot;Wow&quot; scenes in Ep2. Like the zombie running on the train and jumping on your new Ford. Cinematic phyics too...

And yeah, maybe I would cry. I used to say that too but I guess I've become quite a shallow gamer. The only way I could play HL2 again, it is really fun. I guess I went overboard with the &quot;everything> HL2&quot; because I actually did play it recently, but with the cinematic mod, better textures and stuff really help the game. Graphics do play a big roll in why I play games, of course if it was the absolutely shittiest game ever and had amazing real life graphics I still wouldn't buy it.

HL2 didn't even really have that many puzzles. The one I can think of at the top of my head is piling bricks on oneside of a fulcrum to lift the other... Don't remember where it was... And something about lifting a ramp with booeys. HL2 didn't have inovative gameplay either. It was HL1 with a gravity gun and phyics I guess... with decent AI.
