The mass merchant US stores had it on the 19th.

In the rest of the World:
The product was first available on Friday, Nov 21.

On Steam:
The game was available early the morning of the 18th (Eastern time zone).

Left 4 Dead has been available worldwide on Steam since November 18th.

I hope they end up rethinking the release day for the 360 version, and release it earlier.
Oh and I dont know if this is correct or not, but I hear the 360 version comes out sometime in September. I've been hearing and reading that a lot so I just I'd let you guys know.

And one thing also that i want to know, is if on the 360 you can play it split screen coop, and if you can do 4 way split screen coop with 3 other people on one console. If not I just hope you can play 2 player split screen coop on one console.

Well when I signed on AOL today... the stupid internet thing popped up, and strangely it had something about this game. Now I don't know if it's right but the site it had linked to said that BOTH Computer and Xbox will be released at the same time..... keepin my fingers crossed on that one :P

That's really interesting that it was shown on AOL today seeing how it won't be out for quite a bit.. The official word is that the X360 version won't be released until months after the PC version.

It is interesting, I saw the website and I searched for exactly 2hrs and found that the official date is still not confirmed, but will be released in the summer, both PC and 360.

Yeah, I feel ya, some people like one thing others like another. I like playing on computer too with games, its just that most people get lag, and those with lag will lag the others playing the game. I personally like console because you can play with a friend when you cant be on the internet, either because its just not working one day or whatever. Depends on the person, but not having the tactile feel and accuracy of the mouse just doesnt feel right with me. I have high hopes for the Wii though and want to see some nice shooters for that. Nothing so far looks like it has done things right (shooterwise) but I'm hoping Metroid will work well.

I think I play a healthy (or unhealthy, whatever) mix of PC and console. Given the choice, however, I usually pick the PC version just for the mod community and the ability to watch TV at the same time :P

I think it'd be a bad move. Both have the capability of ruining the others' experience. If someone has an edge with the controls, the others can get massacred (infected). If someone is sucking from lack of control refinement, the others get burned (survivors). If the game is as good as I hope it is, I'll probably just get my hands on both versions though.

Edit: on a personal note I'd love to be able to play with players using Live - one of my closest friends, a proud owner of a 360, is intrigued by the co-op aspects of L4D, and being able to play with him would be a huge plus for me.

The only way a 360 user would be able to compete is if they added some assisted auto-aiming functionality. Then again, that's probably only the case for straight fps games, in a game such as this where one side is melee oriented, probably not that much of a deal.

I've played the Wii, its terrible. Like, how do you charge a game like WarioWare for 60 bucks, its like you said they put a bunch of stupid ideas into hat and pull em out, instead they couldn't get anything consistent and released WarioWare lol.

Gears of War and Mass Effect are the only good Xbox 360 exclusives, plus im betting both will come out on PC someday.

you played wario ware.. thats a game best played by children or drunks... im sure there will be plenty of games that are good, i liked red steel, zelda on the wii was awesome.... the new metroid game... no more heros, strikers, brawl,kart,galaxy... keep in mind the 360 had been around for a lot longer and therefore has a bigger library of games to point to. i think the 360 is great if you like graphics a lot. i have a pc for that tho. i got the nintendo for the gameplay. im not the kind of person to sit at a wierd looking bear (er xbox controller) and play on a console all day.. i reserve that time for my pc gameing. but when i do play a console its usually when i have friends over or im just wanting to run through super mario bros for the NES to waste some time... so truly the wii is the perfect console for me. its a party toy to me, not a hardcore gaming machine.
of course in the future id like to see the HD graphics coupled with the innovative controls.

I would hate intergrated severs with consoles and pc's. I dont know about some of you, but I am 3 times faster with a mouse and keybored, than with controle sticks and little buttons. The mouse can give you pin point accuracy, Alot of shooters on consoles do have auto-aim. Plus theres nothing better than the feel of the solid PC, I also think that people using controlers would be slower and might cause problems.


So simple, please dont intergrate players and severs, and if you do keep mark the severs so I know.

Its an employee from EB who saw this date in their computer. This could be for the 360 version, or it could be a completely arbitrary release date that EB is using for preordering, which they have done before. EB/Gamestop are often WRONG in their preemptive release dates, and they are the only source for this rumor.

well sometimes publishers will come up with a release date and then later learn that another, more established/popular title will be coming out about the same time. So they will push release dates back in order to avoid stiff competition.

I have an Xbox 360, but there is no way in hell I would buy this type of game for the 360. I want to be able to play hundreds of custom made maps and be able to build my own. I highly doubt the 360 build will have that. You will probably have to pay for extra maps on the 360. Screw that! I want it free :) Also, the controls on the 360, I think, would make this game very difficult to play, nothing can beat the precision of the mouse :)

I believe they are trying to make it so Windows Vista users can use Live, but I think you are gonna have to pay for it. So if you want to play with 360 users on your PC you might need to pay just like the 360 users, if thats true you can count me out. Theres one right now on fileplanet lol... Dontl et the graphics hit you now, they lowered the texture quality so it fits under 5 gigs.

I figured the graphics wouldn't be phenomenal. I just recently played Vanguard, but there are way too many bugs in that game to enjoy it. The graphics are really nice, but you will occasionally go from 60 fps to 2 fps for no reason. And it always happens during a crucial fight.

If we look at how Ep1 was released... First tiny bits of information then some screenshots, then a teaser and a 2nd teaser. Then finally just before release more trailers...

Now look at L4D media hype so far, a teaser, some pics and some info even the official webpage lacks info... To even consider a soon release would mean a trailer must be released soon id reckon... Back in January a popular German magazine listed the game as 50% done if that is somewhat true and considering the lovely tests at valve Id say the game is more then 50% done but needs a lot of polishing before a release. Consider the fact how long Valve used to polish HL2 and EP1...

the game looked complete according to valve testers 2 years ago. But i think its good that its being perfected beyond perfection, itll make the gaming experience even more intense. But apparently the graphics isnt all that good, mind you, the source engine has been stretched to the max... its nearly time for a new engine. But as STALKER showed... its not all about graphical enhancements. If they get the atmospheric noise right... itll be incredibly intense.

There has been no indication that anything would cause a delay. If a delay is even possible, as there hasnt been an official date given (unless u see summer 2007 as official). Late Summer at the most i think.

lol dont act so surprised. This game has been in development ever since tutle rock was around. Approx 8 years. they've been working on it ever since then. This game was being developed to work on the source engine while the source engine was also being made (obviously). It has taken 8 years because A: the size and scale of the project was huge, and B: only turtle rock was originally working on it. Valve would have become more involved when the idea actually started to take shape. (again... very obvious)

When they started testing it... the game did look complete... but when a tester says &quot;it looks complete&quot;. What they really mean is: The games solid... has good overall game play... lots of potential... theres a few glitches which need straightening out...and the maps need fine tuning... the AI is erm... good.

that was kind of 2 years ago... and very much on schedule. From then to now... is where it gets exciting in game development, because its basically the time when the glitter and glue is added, and is when the game is introduced to the general public.

tbh valve have that much control over everything I'd be surprised if they pushed back the release now unless something major was uncovered, and I doubt they would let people preview it if there was a major flaw. HL2 EP2 is what, a September release? there's hardly any decent media for that (aside from tech demos) and L4D has way more previews etc. already. I reckon it'll be on target, maybe end of summer but summer still.

Another example would be Hellgate London, an equally amazing looking game which is again sheduled for a sept/oct release.

your right 2mean. there has been a lot of coverage on Left 4 Dead, especially when compared with HL2 EP2. This has been done with most exciting new releases coming through steam via valve. I highly doubt it would be pushed back as nothing of its type is coming out this quarter and due to all the coverage... will be very popular. As crysis has been pushed back to September... there is basically no competition. I wouldnt be suprised if it was released earlier.

true there are a lot of exciting new releases coming out this year. But moist are not due until September. Crysis has now randomly gone back to a release date of June, when it used to be September...random...Left 4 Dead however, will be the only game of its type to be released in the summer. Enemy territory quake wars looks good. Basically its a bf 2142... but done so much better. quake 4 + unreal 2004 + bf 2142 = awsome

Only games im looking forward too atm is RE4 on Wii (as ive not payed RE4 yet) due June 29th in Europe. Left 4 Dead (of course) and portal (as i like puzzle games).

It is also fairly likely that a free trial will be issued for a period of three days. In my experience, if you hear any rumblings of a game being delayed, the game will be delayed. Hell, even if you don't hear any talk of delaying a game, it will still get delayed. Games are delayed more than they're played. So if we are hearing Xmas, I think it will be Xmas. Producers seem pretty adamant about getting it out this year, so I think that it IS delayed till Xmas, but that this will be the last delay.

These sites just give &quot;educated guesses&quot;. Some might have asked the devs during their interveiw / playtest, and pushed them for a rough timeframe the game is looking to be released base on development so far, and some sites just go with the flow and state what other &quot;in the know&quot; websites go with. Their guess is as good as ours atm. untill TRS offically give a date, via press release or just announce it online, everything is speculation. People need to stop going on whatever websites say, just coz they are a website and may of got an interveiw with devs, that does not mean they have the date. TRS probably said the same thing to them than they do if one of us asked, which is *when its done* or *sometime this year*

first. EBgames IS Gamestop so its natural that they have the same release date on there. IGN and gamespot are news sites for games, since we know that TRS has not set a date then the only other source for this Q4 date would be....... EBgames/Gamestop. sense EBgames and Gamestop have ALWAYS put up release dates they pull out of their arses just so they can get people to pre order the games, i wouldnt take the date they have listed as anything more than &quot;sometime between now and eternity&quot;.

for example..both EB and Gamestop have Duke Nukem Forever with made up release dates.

also as recently as last week when it was announced that Blizzard would be making a game outside of the warcraft universe and would soon be giving out more details, EB Games listed Starcraft Ghost as a new release date. currently this game has been shelved as vaporware but if you were to believe EB, its coming out THIS YEAR! and most everyone believes that there is no way that Blizzard would be hyping this much for a game they have ALREADY announced in the past and then shelved due to problems with ...whatever they had problems with.

EB is very different from gamestop, in that no gamestop exists in Canada, meaning release dates could very well be different. And I know they are sister stores. I would like to say that in general I'm proud of you guys for limiting your frustration/insanity over the release date not being announced yet.

I followed some random link over to the official L4D forums and some of those guys are going nuts over these rumors that have been floating around, cursing out Mike Booth, of all people.
