Congrats on preview and personally it has made me very interested in this game since I do love abit of horror, i've always been into resident evil. Finally it looks like someone has actually made a decent co-op multiplayer zombie game that might work.
Even though only the 1st part of the preview is out I would suggest at least putting some criticisms in. I know this is a fansite but the preview so far seems to me too good to be true and can put over the impression of being very baised. Alot of people on this forum will probably starting flaming me for saying this but some criticisms and maybe creating a good arguement will win more fans over.

IMO it sounds like smoker's and hunter's are the new awp whores. Am I right? The smoker can just catch you and bring you back to the horde which is lame. Also Hunters can go invisible I heard.

We're putting our criticisms and everything in the final part. If it does sound really really good, it's because that's what we honestly thought. I didn't lie at all when I wrote that, it really was way better than I thought it would be.

good to hear, sounds like you guys had a very good time testing the game. I hope when its released I will have the same experience.

1. Thats part of the challenge that makes it fun.
2. Im pretty sure they can only cloak when they are standing still, and if you aim at them they become visible. (From what i have read.)

Smokers are pretty cool... how is that lame to be grabbed, I agree it IS a challenge, and it must utilize great in-game mechanics also.
I have to agree on invisible enemies though... Its REALLY overdone, and I HATE IT... Since when could zombies go invisible anyways. I'd rather have it that they hide very well in shadows and can scale walls and wait in dark corners and leap at you.
Most of the maps will be dark anyway, so making them invisible when you could just have them hide in shadows is odd to me, plus think how amusing it would be to turn on a flashlight and pan it to a corner and suddenly seeing a blood drenched zombie poised to attack you.

Not sure if I'll use this account often, but just thought I'd voice my anticipation of the game. It didn't really interest me until I read the preview, as I thought it was going to be just another zombie mod - now I know this is going to be something special.
My only major question after reading everything so far is whether the game will run smoothly on systems that are getting on a bit. Hopefully I'll be upgrading within the year but cash is tight. Will I still get good performance and reasonably shiny graphics on a above recomended spec system for HL2?

If you compare it to a horribly mutated, muscley machine, and a large bloated, explodable guy, then I think it looks pretty darn fine to me xD

If your computer runs HL2/CS:S good and fine, you should have no problems with L4D.
And to those concerned about the Hunter 'invisibility', DUCK is right. You have to be completely still and it takes time to hide, and if someone looks at you you're uncovered (and therefore die very fast). Part 2 will explain it in detail.

How much memory do you think the game might take up?

Thanks for the quick response - must say I'm relieved. I started reading all the information about the dual-core bells and whistles and started to feel my heart sink.

I guess I would just recommend you go try out a 40+ person CSS server and see how your computer handles it. Make sure it's a good server, though, because even though my computer can handle it, sometimes crappy servers chop up my framerate.

I have a hunch the min. specs may be a bit higher this time around. Apparently this thing is running on a newer build of the source engine. After personally making maps for a similar themed multiplayer game using the unreal engine - Land of The Dead, I can say that having a ton of bots running around, coupled with fancy lighting, heavy texture usage etc. can be resource heavy. You'd be surprised how a swarm of zombies in an otherwise modest looking map can pull down the fps. I hope I'm wrong, but to run this thing at full glorious detail, I expect we'll be crossing into multi-core territory.

Well sure, to run in full glorious detail it'll take some power.. I thought the question was more aimed towards minimum specs.
Here's an example of a map that would get tripped up with more than 25-30 zombies on-screen Clickeroo Here (http://img250.imageshack.us/img250/2605/zombiesnw5.jpg)
Simple area with a ton of Zs can crush the framerate.
By the way, playing on a server can be a different story altogether vs single player, for those of you with close to min specs. It can be much easier on the client machines because a server is doing some of the work for you with all the bots and such. Single player means a performance hit as it's all on your PC's shoulders.

I got bored of CS:S long ago, but still play DoD:S every now and again - more frequently Dystopia. I have all options set to high and have 2* anti-alaising with HDR lighting and very, very rarely experience any hitching. I'm quite pleased with how my computer is running despite having a Radeon 9800 under the hood. I suspect the 1.5GB of RAM is taking the beating for it.
Sounds good. I don't mind having to turn the graphics down for a game, I'd just rather not.
If anything will need to be turned down, I bet it'll be the dynamic lighting. Squerl, did you happen to notice a ton of complex shadows and lighting?

It's pretty dark most of the time, so I can't say how complex the lighting was. The flashlight looked really good.
