Seeing as how everyone else is posting specs, I might as well join in the fun.

Radeon 9250 256MB
1 GB RAM
2.8 GHz

Will I be ok?

Remember, it is all speculation at this point. The game has not even been optimized yet, so we have no idea what specs itll need. We're just assuming if you can manage CSS/Halflife youll be okay.

To more exactly specify your "rig", use dxdiag.
To do so (On Windows XP), go Start > Run > Type "dxdiag" and you'll be presented a window with an array of different tabs, each of them dedicated to different "fields" (Sound, CPU, GPU, etc.).

DarkRoy12

I can play CSS/HL2 but with low fps >_>

with all the talk of multicore support and im assuming dx10 support will be added if not included... im a little worried about my pc being able to run it on my personal standards.

i want to run it at 1280 x1024. with all the known max settings ( settings equal to the max settings in HL2)

i have a Pentium 4 3.07Ghz, 1 gig ram, nvidia geforce 6800 GS/XT w/ 256 ram

i dont know what ill be missing out on with out a multicore processor, or the most top of the line graphics card... or one of those physics cards... or any of the crap i just cant bring myself to spend upwards of 5 grand to put together into my fantasy rig... but if it runs the game as well as it runs hl2 (and the game is gorgeous even by todays standards) ill be happy.

will this hardware profile atleast give me HL2 quality graphics and frame rate at my personal settings?

Yeah, we won't know for sure until they're closer to release and have optimized the game what the minimum specs will be. Recently my X800XL has been dying (crashes all the time, lots of bugs in games after 10-15 minutes of playing etc), but hopefully it'll last till L4D comes out, because I'm going to be getting a whole new rig for the game..

Been looking at monitors especially. They had us playing on a 30" Dell at 2560x1600 and it was zomg. It's $1350 though, compared to the other one I'm looking at which is a 22" Samsung for around $280 (only runs at 1680x1050)..

We'll see what the prices are like in the summer!

im leaning towards a new monitor also.

i went to dell and mapped out my dream rig with their watercooled dual 8800s, quad core, physics card, Tb hd, and 4 gigs of ram.... anyone want to spot me 6k?

Hah!

I've had a 19" flat screen CRT for a long time now, and the way my desk is set up it's like 2 1/2 feet from my face (far away).. either a 22" or 30" will be a big improvement.

I read a quote yesterday from Gabe Newell a long time ago where he said for HL2/Source engine they forced their level designers to play on AMD Duron 2ghz and some pretty crappy DirectX 8 cards so that they would make it run on any machine decently.

Since L4D is the Source engine, I'm sure it'll be playable on a wide range of computers.

this should be done more often by developers.

this is the only game im even interested in having a quad core pc for, and i figure if i upgrade that i may aswell go all out so im seriously considering updating my pc for about 6k.

im going to wait to see how well it runs on this one first tho.

It runs 1080p display at 1920x1080 (Resolution I use for HL2 cinematic mod)

The highest I believe, off the top of my head 20xx by 15xx (dont remember exact numbers, too busy playing PVK 2, its minimized right now so i better get back to it.

Since the release of crap S.T.A.L.K.E.R im also getting worried if any of my two PC can handle new games I want to play decently suchs as L4D... My stationary PC has the following specs:

17 TFT Screen
Windows XP SP2
AMD Sempron 3000 + 3DNOW 1.8GHZ
512 DDRAM 266
ATI Radeon 9600 128 MB
MSI Mainboard on it
340 GIG Harddrives
Realtek 97 Sound on Board

Halflife2 plays real good on it but Stalker doesnt even do Dynamic Lighting...

My new Notebook specs:
1024 RAM
Dual Core Intel 2.0 Ghz
Radenon Mobility X1350 with up to shared 384 MB
120 GIG harddrive
17 Screen
Windows Vista Premimum

One would think Stalker would like this system but nah runs also no good with dynamic lighting at least I can enable it on this PC...

Stupid how some games run good and others dont...

Oh I own a Xbox360 as well but dont go online with it...

Found this from halflife2.net:

Requirements

You will need:
Minimum: 1.2 GHz Processor, 256MB RAM, DirectX 7 graphics card, Windows 2000/XP/ME/98, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection, CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
Recommended: 2.4 GHz Processor, 512MB RAM, DirectX 9 graphics card, Windows 2000/XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection, CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive

Yeah, those are estimated/based on other Source games. Turtle Rock hasn't said anything about the specs yet, but those are good for a guidance.

i'd say to be on the safe side and have a good frame rate with the game maxed out u will need to get around 80fps on the css video stress test with everything set to high:)

The rest of my pc is fine i was just wondering about the cpu.
Will this cpu be ok at top specs? intel dual core 2.2ghz What fps will I be getting?

sir monster
04-16-2007, 10:48 AM
What fps will I be getting?
well. i think its a bit of a silly question.
this engine is the Source engine for hl2 which if im not mistaken is made for single core processors,(meaning your dual core will run it just fine equating to a 4.4 ghz single core)

multi core support and features will be in the release (meaning you will get to see visual effects that single cores wont) but the engine is still source and so should run at its highest settings, on your highest resolution at perfect framerate (not including packet loss or other internet caused frame rate droppage)

thanks for making me and my pc feel inferior.

Heh I havn't got it yet if it makes you feel better.
Question; would two 2.2ghz cpus work as well as a dual core?
