View Full Version : My Graphics Card

Well my graphics card is a Radeon 9600 soo its not to good. I mean it plays all my CS:S and HL:2 games really well. But im worried because somethings dont work for my games because of the card. For example...nightvision doesn't work for me in CS:S. The scopes for the sniper in HL:2 come up black for me. And, ive noticed in Mods like the Hidden, there scopes come up black (as in a black screen with a crosshair) and the Hidden dude is completely black instead of camoflauged. Also in the mod Zombie Master, the Zombie Master has a night vision toggle to use. Well of course you could probably guess that comes up black for me to.
So im worried that maybe the night vision for the boss infected wont work for me, or that the snipers come with come up black >.<
Please if you know any reallly good cards for cheap. Id be so happy if you told me. OH and one more thing, when i try to download my cards drivers i get some error, if someone has a tutorial for downloading drivers please tell me. Or work with me step by step through getting the driver in right.
Thank You for your time.

I have a Radeon 9600 as well :).
Not sure what some good cards (for cheap) are though sorry :\.

Mess with your settings or update your video drivers. Those blacked out things ARE NOT your hardware.

simple solution, install the latest card drivers, or reinstall them. Whats happening is, your card cant read the textures in the game, usually a driver problem.
Ahh right... read your last bit o post XD, you've got to completely wipe your cards drivers, while doing this, its best if you put your monitor on an "onboard" graphics card, if you dont have one, then dont worry, although things might get a little strange. Anyway, uninstall drivers or "roll back" if you can. To do this, go to control panel - system - device manager (under hardware tab) - display adapter - double click your card.
First of all, try updating your driver first, if you still get the error try "roll back", then try updating, or try the game when your driver has been "rolled back". If worst comes to worst, go to driver details, locate those file paths and delete them, then go to the internet and install card driver...
Any more problems after that go back and post on forum again.

Wow...umm. Im not sure exactly if i could do all that without fucking up my computer. I mean like im okay at the computer but...not that good. Well let me ask you this. What would I have to mess around with in my settings to get that black off? Oh and one more thing. I downloaded a driver (i think) and it worked. It was called like a Catalyst driver or something.

Well, usually the advanced stuff under the video tab. But usually that doesn't really help and I'd go with Ark's advice.

erm you shouldnt really download beta drivers, which is what the "catalyst" driver is probably. You need to go on the ATi site, and get the proper driver. As i said before, the black means that there is no texture as in, your graphics card isnt displaying it, because it doesnt know its their most probably, if their was a problem with display it would be purple. Anyway, just do what i say above and it should be ok, you might want to delete that beta driver though, even though they can be ok, they can produce problems sometimes. They usually are designed to stress graphics cards so you get better performance.

Well I did download it from the ATi site and right after I made my last comment I went on Counter Strike Source to use the nightvision and it worked. So im gonna see if the Hidden works.

But usually that doesn't really help
lol it can if you know what you are doing rannos XD... but your right on this occasion, fiddling wont help you get back a missing texture.
But wait *idea strikes me from behind*... hmm, you say only scopes are black? and night vision screens? hmm... you know, it might just be exactly that, a missing texture i mean. But lets not get hasty, try all the ideas i pointed out first, just to rule out the driver predicament. If its not that ill explain another theory in a lil bit. o but you say you cant see the "invisible" texture either... on hidden... no i think it is the driver... but the hidden texture is very very advanced for the radeon 9600, could just be that your card is just too old... but i dont think so, i would have thought it would be an advantage to see "hidden" anyway lolXD

o so it isnt a beta driver, its just a random name... well there u go, the hidden texture might not work though. A little tip to find missing/unsupported textures btw. Run "video test" on counter strike. Runs you through a tour of all the textures on the source engine, very usefull.

Lol ya it is an advantage to see the hidden but people find out and yell at you and implus it takes the fun out of the game.

Sounds like crap. I say you buy a whole new one.
It's problems like those that I've put up with for the past 4 years that's making me get a new computer real soon (A computer that has got the graphics card I want built in already-Nvidia 7800 or 8800 can't remember D:)

the Hidden dude is completely black instead of camoflauged
HAX! lol advantage like you said.
Make sure you got update drivers. Good enough PSU. If still bad, just get a new card.

thats why i dont like hidden, a lot of people delete the hidden texture so all they see is purple... its annoying, you sort of walk around as hidden, find a nice spot, then someone stops right in front of you and looks at you... your like: "surely he cant see me... can he?"
then BOOM!, and your like "wtf!"

Lol, well anyways the driver I downloaded also works with the hidden texture, so its all good. Lol thank you for your help. Man I cant wait for L4D!!!
Oh and one more question.
Does anyone know how much memory for your comp costs? Because at the moment I only have 1.50GB >.< so im worried I might not have enough room for L4D.
Plankie
06-23-2007, 10:37 AM
Still, if you have enough room, it'll probably slow your computer down. You really need a new harddrive. They aren't that expensive really, but if you don't have that much money you could always remove something from your current harddrive instead of getting a new one. Perhaps you have a movie or game or something you can delete?

1.5gb... thats enough to run anything. l4D runs on the source engine remeber, you know, the engine which only requires 256mb of ram to run. 1gb of RAM will run L4D perfectly, 1.5 is even better.

Did he mean ram or Hard disk space?
Arkeneaver
06-23-2007, 10:58 AM
definatly RAM.
Memory isnt hard disk space. and only having 1.5gb of storage is insane, your pc will take forever to run programs.
he might only have 1.5gig left, after installing various things, and somtimes people make a common mistake of calling hard disk space memory...like a memory stick etc.
But yea hes probably talkin about ram....its just the way he said
im worried I might not have enough room for L4D.

lol I meant hard disk space :) I have 512mb RAM and only like 1.50GB here ill show you a pic.

it doesnt take forever to run programs...in fact. Its farely fast. But I want more because im on the edge of running out. And theres so many things I want to play. So does anyone have like a list or something on how much it costs per GB?

06-23-2007, 11:49 AM
Wow... never seen that before. Thats not even enough room to install HL2. I think you need more disk space buddy. Definately more ram.
As it is now I don't think you will be able to play the game.

You need a new hard drive dude, not even I can help you now, My advice is to forget the whole "for cheap" idea and just save up for a comp overhaul. New hardrive, new Graphics card, More RAM, the works

i have a nividia ge force 8600 gts oc and it runs games at the same framerate that my 6600 did. how do i enable my overclocking feature and make it so it runs better? please help

You probably need something other than a new video card, overclocking wont help. Check you other system specs and maybe that is why

i have an amd athalon 64 but im in need of a better one, this one is old. i have 1 gig of ram. if those arent the problem, what is?

1 gig shouldnt be a problem. Get a new processor. Make sure you have enough power, and cooling.

1 gig shouldn't be a problem at all. Hell, I just got my new computer and lets say I got MORE than enough Ram to support L4D (3gb >.>) You should get more ram is what I'm saying :P
Also, you might want to look into more HD space , I mean 1.5 gb can't even support HL2... :|

i make sure i only use 3/4 of a hard drive, this gives it plenty of head room to siff through applications when loading them up. If you fill up your hard drive, performance is decreased immensely. i cant believe you only have 1.5gb left, thats what my old pc has left and only has a 40gb hard drive.
