Is there a command to slow down player's melee swing recycle time?

It would be a simple and elegant way to make the game that much harder. Not being able to hole up into a corner and melee-cheese your way to victory would make it a lot tougher. You might actually now have to time melee swings and the firing your weapon...and also rely more on your team mates and hope they are not farting around in the next room looking for pills.

I think there might be. Check the pdf cvar list they have on the 411 home page. go to the s section (its ABC order) and look for a survivor_ something. Im not sure that there is but with 1688 commands there might be something.

I think after X number of swings your arm should get tired. Maybe if you keep doing it, it cold shut down entirely and you'd no longer be able to use weapons. Better yet, if you melee while holding an explosive your arm blows off.

Messing around with the setting I figured out what really is the problem. The swing duration is the main culprit.

Even though it says 0 on that cvar list, its not. Setting it to zero does no damage or knock back to infected.

Its the number of seconds after you hit the swing button that the force of your gun will affect infected. So if its set to 1, every infected in front of you for a second will get hit.

Im not really sure what that are set at in game, but I know that the duration is longer then the interval (or same speed) that way if you spam the swing button fast enough there will never be a time when you are not knocking back infected.

So I set the interval to 1 (longer then what it is in the game, but you hardly notice) and duration to 0.1 . Versus a single infected or even a small group you hardly notice the difference. Its not until you hole up in a corner versus a horde that you notice taking hits when you normally wouldn't.

Sounds like a great solution, Tongued. Let's hope they incorporate changes like that into the full game.
