last night i went to launch steam and an error came up. so i deleted (or rather moved to desktop) the .blob file, as this seems to sort out most of steams problems. and when i run steam, it just says "updating" then after 5 seconds "steam is temporarily unavailable, please try again later". after checking their support it says it could be down to a firewall after a steam update, so i accepted steam again, and same problem occured, so i disabled my firewall, and same problem again... ( and im trying again now after 13 hours)

so if anyone could help, i'd be happy :)

Troubleshooting Steps
"Close the Steam client application and remove all instances of the following executables from your firewall's permissions list:

steaminstall.exe
steam.exe
hl.exe
hl2.exe
steamTmp.exe

Permissions for these executables will need to be re-learned by your firewall.

Open Steam to allow your firewall to re-learn permissions for the Steam executables. If your firewall does not prompt you to set new permissions, the security settings may be too strict - you will need to change these settings so you will be prompted to set permissions.

Give the Steam executables permission for all TCP and UDP ports when prompted.

Restart your computer and load Steam."

Im guessing thats what you been looking at yer ? Thats what i did, same problem happened to me couple weeks ago.

thanks for your help..... i just closed every file from the tray... and some reason steam began to update...... the only confusing thing is there is nothing in the tray that should effect it.... ill run them one by one to see what it is.... anyways, thanks :) the reply was much appreciated :D
