Um, I'd google it first..

Go to Steam games, right click on CS:S, go to properties, then click "verify integrity of game cache".. at least to start with.

Ive verified the files as u said and its done nothing still happening

the message says "the application tried to ref memory at blah blah, the memory could not be"

its doing my head in now, i realy dont wanna go through a re install of steam and the game, i wanna try and sort it out

Reinstalls solve most headaches.

Um.. make sure to restart your computer.. then verify the HL2 files.

still nothing, it works fine for like a minuite then closes with a couple of message boxes. The first one is a standerd windows box with a HL2 logo in the corner asking me if i want to send an error report which i have done, then the second box is a grey box with a red warning sign saying hl2.exe tried to ref memory at ??? and the memory could not be read.

Make sure your drivers are up-to-date, because if you've reinstalled then it's a problem with your computer. Either drivers or something wrong with some of your RAM, I'm not sure.. I'm sure you're not the first person with the problem so try and google the error message.
