I love this game. It gets exciting, fun, scary, crazy, and just so interesting. Its like being in a book while its being written. Except for me the pages are being written pretty messy...

Every time I play this game its gets fun and then it happens... The game crashes.. How? I have no idea.. Why? Your asking the wrong person.. It happens when its loading through a door and while I'm just traveling around and it's really ticking me off... So I come to you guys to see if you can give me any advice or miracles for my very annoying and game experience destroying problem...

Or at least if some on can tell me where the save files are so I can Re-Install the bastard because I REALLY do not want to start over again.

P.S This has been happening ever since I first began playing

Any advice or answers will be much appreciated..

any Translation for this or can some one tell me how to do it

"I had the same issue. Uninstall all codec packs, ie Nimo."

Oh yeah on other thing..

The sound for the game is ALL screwed up..

I hear things falling from a few feet away and it sounds like its right in front of my ears or some times I dont hear it at all

I also hear water when I'm not even close to any water at all. And when I am next to water I dont hear squat.

I barely hear any back round sounds or the sound of people walking around or the sounds of a horse galloping.

Please some one help ='(

Every other game I play works perfectly fine

If any one finds some advice, news, tips, etc. please post it here

Yeah, oblivion alway crashes. I think its just how it is. I had my girlfriend's uncle do something though to the game since he has it too. Now it hardly ever crashes, I'll ask him to see what he did.

You mean thats why it doesn't crash or just that it can be a little tough on your comp?

This is where i got the answers from.

Unofficial Oblivion Crash Log

Update 1 Wednesday, March 21 2:00 AM EST

From reading the comments here and on other forums, one crash trend seems to appearing. People are reporting a crash to desktop when opening doors and/or when loading. I will be posting more information related to this soon.

Update 2 Wednesday, March 21 9:15 AM EST

If you are experiencing crashes when opening doors and/or when loading, you might want to try the following steps:

1. Start dxdiag by clicking Start, then Run, and typing dxdiag

2. Select the "Sound" tab in the dxdiag window

3. Change the Hardware Sound Acceleration slider to "Standard acceleration"

4. Close dxdiag and relaunch Oblivion

Update 3 Wednesday, March 21 12:00 PM EST

Nvidia has released their latest driver 84.25 today. You can download it here. It hasn't fixed my crashing issues, and at this point I really didn't expect it to. It seem that us unlucky users will have to wait for Bethesda's to issue a patch.

Update 4 Wednesday, March 21 3:38 PM EST

I tried disabling my Creative Labs Live! sound card and switching to the integrated RealTek sound on my motherboard. This hasn't fixed the my crashing problem, but it's still a good idea to include a description of your soundcard.

Update 5 Thursday, March 22 8:45 AM EST

I swapped videocards and put in an ATI 9800 Pro 128 MB and the game still crashes. I've added my Intel 875P chipset to the report list.

Update 6 Friday, March 23 6:15 PM EST

Today I fixed Oblivion's random crashing problems on my main gaming rig. To fix the random crashing I ended up uninstalling all but the most basic audio and video codecs. Here is how it's done, but be warned, if you don't know what you are doing you might trash your OS.

1. Goto your Control Panel, and open the "Sounds and Audio Devices" item

2. Select the "Hardware" tab and select "Audio Codecs", then press "Properties"

3. In the "Audio Codec Properties" window select "Properties" again

You will see a list of installed codecs. In my case the list was rather large, because I work with audio and video files a lot. You'll need to figure out which codecs are third party codecs for yourself.

1. Select the third party codecs one at a time and click "Remove"

2. Repeat these same steps with video codecs

You also might want to try this piece of software to help you remove codecs.

After you follow the above codec removal steps, reboot your pc and run Oblivion. Hopefully your crashing problems will be fixed.

Update 7 Tuesday, March 28 5:45 PM EST

Contributer yoyoo suggests disabling codecs, while Marc reports that he fixed his crashing problems. Marc's solution was to remove video codecs as well, only he did it by uninstalling a conflicting program. This approach might work out for users who are afraid of using the steps outlined in update 6.

Update 8 Friday, March 31 11:00 AM EST

Alun reports sucess in fixing his crashing problems by disabling some video codecs and CD burning software. He also provides a link to a Microsoft Help and Support page about default video codecs for Windows XP SP2.

I want thank everyone so far who has contributed to this log, and thank Bethesda for making Oblivion, which will probably go down in history as one of the best video games ever.

How would I know which one is the Third Party Codecs?

Stubbs

get it for the 360 like me so it never crashes

i also played it on a friends computer and it never crashes (probably cus his uncle messed with it alot) and i even made a zombie mod for it where when you start on the save file you get a message that says there is a disease going through tamriel where people are biting each other and turning into phycopathic murderers. man me and my friend woked

Stubbs

the hell out of that. these are 28 days style zombies.

what we did was make there be 10 zombies spread out in city areas around tamriel and these are normal people but creepy looking with red eyes and they run really fast and when someone gets bitten by them there eyes turn red too. and trust me the infection spreads with in 2 hours of playing and by then you are either dead , one of them, or hiding in a farm house in the country areas. if you get hit 1-4 times your bitten by one. and you can't stop your guy from running you can only control which way he turns and then you look for normals until everyone is infected.

Why you no link to it?

If you buy the Steam version of Oblivion, be warned that some mods won't work (OBSE more importantly), since the .exe is encrypted.

Since I luuuurve Morrowind, I bought Oblivion, naturally.
It seems like creativity got lost and crashed into a ravine on the way towards Cyrodill.
Cyrodill you say? Looks more like Sherwood.
Level scaling got silly when petty bandits started wearing Daedric armor.
The game got quite boring about a month or two afterwords.
Voice acting is blech, especially when they only use one voice for like 60% of the characters.

/spoilers

The main quest is just a bunch of strung together Fetch-Quests

spoilers\

Of course, when I first played:

OMFGORGASM

But still, most RPG's are supposed to make you feel that way quite some time after still playing it. For example, I still have orgasmic experiences when playing Morrowind or the first two Fallouts.

Ok.

It does get repetitive after about a month......but that's where PC users are in luck, I guess.

I wonder if Stubbs made the "28 days and a bit later" zombie mod

Ok.

Couldn't agree more. Great game on a first run through for a couple weeks of play but compared to the depth and scope of Morrowind, bleh. Did they have to rip the heart and soul out of a game just to add some physics and interesting combat? Morrowind I spent years going back to and exploring new places. Oblivion looks the damn same everywhere with two dungeon textures and leveled monsters which means EVERY dungeon will be the same experience.

Oh well.

I find starting out in a prison ruins the role playing part of the story.

So I don't :)
