View Full Version : Disappointed About Voice Comm.

From what I understood of the preview on this website, the only voice communication is automated with set sayings and phrases. To be honest, I think that is extremely disappointing if that is true. One of the greatest things about cooperative games and I'd imagine especially so for Left 4 Dead, is that you'd be able to verbally say what you want to say. Scream verbally if you wanted to scream, and not be limited.
Whether there are 1,000 or 10,000 voice commands and phrases, a person's unique reaction or voice defines the game a lot more. To hear that you're only allowed to use set Voice Commands provided by the game developers, was a huge upset about this game.
I may be wrong about what I read, but if I'm right, it has definitely made me less likely to purchase this game. I mean, I understand that Ventrilo would still be used, but still...no actual in-game communication?!

It's not all automated. It says in the preview:
"The way the voice system works is that there are three different voice command buttons (default z, x, and c) that bring up their own wheel in the middle of the screen. From there, you move your mouse in the direction of the phrase you wish to say."
Unless you don't like the lack of voice support (like CS:S). In that case, forget I ever posted here :O

^ those are set phrases and such. And yes, I'm talking about the voice support like in every Half-Life/2 game and mod.

Hey people its called Ventrilo.
I'm pretty sure voip will be implemented. like EVERY source game in existence....but even if it wasn't, the source codecs are CRAP, even after the source update a couple months ago. You can understand like 1 out of 10 people, and thats because they spent 70 bucks on their mic. Soo....just download vent or teamspeak, and chat on that...it works and sounds better anyhow.

Tbh I think you don't have time to talk you just have to act. Less talk more action lol. What else are you gonna say though? Maybe "holy shit did you see that guys?!" and annoy the other players? They recorded 1,000 phrases for each character. So I would have to say they covered eveything that you will want to say yourself. Still if you don't like it get xfire or something. Nothing's going to hold you back from doing that.

There are the preset commands AND THERE IS VOICE COMMUNICATION WITH HEADSETS. Just like CS:S you can use the headset and voice comm (like ventrilo), or you can use the ingame voices for all the people that don't have them.
Sorry if this wasn't clear enough.
