View Full Version : N00b question from a veteran.
So I've been playing vs. mode for the past couple hours, and ive noticed something troubling...
i dont know if its just MY game, but everytime ive spawned as boomer and fell off something high, i havent blown up. I really hope that the devs havent taken out this wonderful aspect of the boomer. they already negated the explosion damage, anyway.
anyone else noticed this?

I've fallen off cliffs and I haven't exploded.
The boomer just doesn't take fall damage when played by a human.

god thats stupid... why does valve insist on making this game so damned noob friendly. im going to rant now: i used to LOVE the boomer because of being able to drop in on people who were grouped too tightly together, and have my team rush in and kill them... now im forced to just puke and HOPE that someone gets it? wtf.... this game is becoming so damned one-sided for the survivors. i remember the olden days before the release when everything that we were told about the game sounded awesome, and now one thing after another keeps getting changed.

I don't want to use an exploit, because its a tad unfair, but at the same time, whats more unfair than running empty handed at 4 dudes with assault rifles? i just feel like in trying to balance the game so much (as they are) they're unbalancing it for the infected side.

Do what I do... Get to a high point and jump between them, or just find a good hiding spot.

If you are a good boomer, you can jump down in the group and they will be startled and shoot you, if they don't shoot you, you can just vomit on them.

One time, I was playing Blood Harvest with a friend. We had made it to the emergency room and successfully cleared out about 90% of the zombies. I had about 60 health and hadn't been knocked down once. In a flash of lightning, I died, with a message saying, "You've been killed by a boomer". I didn't even get vomited on, I just... died... I didn't even see the boomer near me. Kinda wish I recorded it, being as the biggest BS moment I've ever had.
Boomers are the real American heroes, fall damage or not.

Hasn't been in the game since then. maybe it was implemented for a month or so, but never fersure in the game.

I've fallen from the apartments level of No Mercy and right on top of the safehouse in The Sewers. Both times i exploded.

I've tried both of those too many times with no results... You sure it wasn't the survivors shooting you?

Says who. It was more of an after thought to keep people from jumping down into bullets back when the boomer did raw damage on explosion.

It's vital to a good boomer, and a lack of this option would make the boomer Under-Powered.
Under-Powered in a similar way to if the clawing attack was removed from the hunter or smoker.

I get fall damage. Whenever I jump down from the building on No Mercy, Chapter 3, at the gas tank area, I just die and every survivor around me gets the GOO! It doesn't always work, though. Bug?

It depends on who you play with. When i play with friends, we're cool using the 'exploit' because the boomer is very easily killed, and this actually helps balance the game.

I honestly think they should keep the "Boomer Bombs" and re-introduce some sort of damage from the explosion, like way back. Gives you some extra incentive to run in after you've barfed.

Same on my server. If I catch (or receive multiple reports of) anyone doing this, spamming exploited grenades, melee-switching or any other bullshit during a versus match: insta-ban.

The Survivors were never supposed to be balanced against the Infected. The general idea in Versus mode was that the Survivors aren't expected to make it to the safe room; they're just trying to get farther than the other team did.

The Smoke is easily seen through, the only bad thing it can do to you is make your FPS count drop especially when theres fire around...
I don't think its an exploit since you can also bind it to "explode", not just "kill". I don't think they would have made an explode command if they considered it an exploit.

Face it, as far as I know apparently, any game that runs on the Source engine, or a different version of it, will have things like "sv_cheats", "explode" and "kill", and all the rest. It's a good tactic, I puke on the survivors, then I waddle in and hit CTRL (my hand plays differently on the WASD so ALT is my crouch ;3).

You'll have to run that through one of the mods, cause don't think they feel the same way about that.

heh I suppose. but did they seriously take the smoke out of versus? I mean what the hell was the point of that? the smoke never gave a real advantage to the infected. it just adds to the atmosphere.

There is still smoke when a smoker dies, but i think Raggle was talking about when smokers could originally voluntarily release the smoke, but that has since been taken out of the game.

Boomers take fall damage thats 100% since i saw a bot once jump off a house and explode and i did blow a couple of times myself.
There is still smoke when a smoker dies, but i think Raggle was talking about when smokers could originally voluntarily release the smoke, but that has since been taken out of the game.
Yeah, this was a long while back, back when the Boomer exploding actually did damage, and when the Hunter could turn invisible just by standing still.
