Hunter for me. If you get hit by Boomer you can handle your own, plus if you can't hit him then you probably couldn't hit a particularly venomous barn door if you had to. If you get lynched by Smoker you have a chance of freeing yourself, admittedly this is harder but still possible. If you're attacked by a Tank all you need to do is pummel the thing with bullets and hope he doesn't return the favour with his fists. However Hunters are small fast-moving fuckers who if they manage to land their special attack leave you completely fucked unless a friendly buddy bats him the fuck off your shredded torso.

I always feel great pleasure when I bat one of those fuckers out of the air, similar to the feeling when you slap a particularly fat blowfly that's been buzzing around your head for the last half hour. Unless they're a particularly hyper blowfly. Stay still you fucker!

Get him stuck on stuff. His AI makes him climb some of the stupidest shit sometimes.

Also, propane tanks take off a huge amount of his health if you can blow up it up right next to him.

Use anything but the hunting rifle, stay about 3-5 metres away, backpedal and drag him around and around. Really easy most of the time. To dodge the concrete move either left or right while he's prepping it (you have to be moving, walking in to a wall doesn't count) and then switch direction when he throws it. A tank will take about 50 shotgun shells or 125 M16 rounds. If it's a player tank it won't do much damage and your team should be able to wipe the floor with it if there aren't too many otehr infected around.

On expert, Tank scores hits with concrete from the most impossible angles sometimes. On Death Toll Chapter 3, right before you get to the house with the truck parked directly to the left of the front door there is that little shed with the health locker in it. I have seen Tank hurl a chunk of rock into the back window, and directly out the entrance, clunking my fellow survivor square in the face. Hacks.
Tank can go F himself.

Sorry but I have to say the Hunting Rifle eats Tanks alive just about as fast as the fabled Auto Shotgun. If you're far enough away while your teammates are baiting him, you can let off a few mags and do some pretty huge amounts of damage.

How about all 3 of them at the same time? And obviously it depends on distance and how the weapon works.

Have to say the hunter. Hate knocking them off teammates only for them to pounce me! Plus these hunters may create more panic on my team than anything else.

love the hunting rifle. I'm always the guy armed with it and I think it kills a tank pretty damn fast. I don't know where your getting the 28 shotty shots to bring it down. those must be direct headshots point blank or something. i've almost emptied my ammo stores with an auto shotty into one at what was pretty much...point blank, obviously it was just far enough that he couldn't hit me. eventually I died and he still took a beating from the rest of my team. on easy...yeah sure, it only takes maybe..15 point blank shotty rounds but i'm not sure such a low number is accurate. i'll have to test it myself.

Edit: so I just tested it. the guy above is mostly accurate. my results were 32 shotgun shells, 50 hunting rifle, and 283 rifle. I nocliped to a very open area and spawned a tank with godmode on so I could get in close or run far away based on what I needed. I say from what I just did that the m16 is gonna be your best bet. to get close enough to pop off 20+ point blank shotgun shots is either going to take ages, running away and then popping in close for 2 or 3 shots before running off again or your going to die trying to pop in such powerful shots. I could barely hit him more than 3 times before he smacked me off. the hunting rife I'm going to say will be good support for a tank but definatly not good for going head to head with one. if your team mates are fighting one a hunting rifle is going to definatly take the edge off. it was slightly easier for me to kill a tank head to head with this than the shotty but not by much since you can't really run & shoot with it. m16 is in my book the best bet because it's accurate while running and so long as you hit him you actually have a chance of taking him down alone. approx 4 clips and you should be good, unless you've missed. so, I guess if you know a tanks coming arm 3 with m16's and one with a scoped rifle. unless of course you have some bad shotgun skillz

Boomers and Tanks. The thing about Boomers is that you have to get them before they get you AND you can't be too close when you do it. It's a little tense when you hear that Boomer and you're trying to figure out where he's hiding at, hoping he's not going to drop down ontop of you or is sitting RIGHT behind a corner.

Also, the think about the Tank's rocks is that he leads his shots a little bit, anticipating the direction you're moving. If you move to one direction then quickly dart the other way he'll probably miss you.

I'd say hunter as it's the one you can't do shit to save yourself on your own.

Smoker, you can try to melee the tongue. You can try to fight the tank as hard as you can (and get your ass raped occasionaly). A boomer vomiting on you can be survived.

A hunter grabbing you and all you can do is wait for someone else to save our ass.

Plus the fact that i always hear those bastards and say to myself "next corner he'll just jump on me". And it never fails :D.

10 shells from the auto shotgun at close range do 2500 damage to the Tank.

An entire clip from the M16 only does 2100.
