View Full Version : Better No Mercy Ending

I thought that the helicopter was way more exciting in the earlier version of l4d. Where you would climb up the ladder and then first person up gets on turret. That looked alot more dramatic! Remember how a smoker could grab you off the ladder seconds away from safety. Just looked better to me.
What you think?

they probably changed it because of versus. All the survivors would be to vulnerable on the ladder. Just a guess though.

yes all survivor from both team.. so that's balanced. I would like to try that.

They would have changed it in the versus mode anyway, like they did with certain parts on both maps.

True. I don't know why then.

I think that they should've kept it so that you can shoot the zombies on the roof after everyone got on the chopper. It's kinda lame how you can't shoot once everyone's on. Also, if they did bring back the ladder, they should make it like a realistic helicopter ladder that's swinging back and forth. Or maybe just a cable? I dunno. But I think it'd be better. Even if they just put the chaingun on the heli I'd be happy.

I kinda liked most of the endings actually, except for Dead Toll. Most endings are quite dramatic...helicopter airlift, rescued by an APC, and flying off in a plane. But somehow that boat just doesn't cut it. I was expecting maybe a destroyer or something, and instead we got this tiny little wooden tug boat.
I also wished that we could have some backup when getting rescued, especially in Blood Harvest because I'm sure the army can spare a marine or two to give us some backup while we are running to the APC.

i agree cathhy for bloood harvest backup but as for the boat thing I was expecting maybe a destroyer or something

Has anyone actually taken the time to look at the helicopter pilot yet? He's badass.

Well it wasn't a military chopper so it even having a turret wouldn't make much sense. Now they could probably add a military chopper in a future campaign an bring that concept back.

Heh...okay, not a destroyer...I was kinda thinking of one of those smaller ships in the navy. I admit my knowledge of warships sucks, I admit it. Maybe a Corvette then, or w Patrol Boat....would that be better?

Yea I did, seeing how he's the only other alive person that we managed to see in the game. If I'm not wrong, the tugboat, airplane and APC were all self-piloted.

Well the next closest characterized people in L4D apart from Helicopter Pilot and Churchguy are John and Amanda (I think its Amanda, I'm going off memory here) Slater who drive the fishing boat in Death Toll.

no, the reason why they changed it is because they used to tie all of thee campaigns together, the heli pilot would cough, and say that the last pickup had a zombie that bit him, and that the heli would go down, and that would be the beginning of the next campaign. i read it on the commentary mode

saw it too nub
and that doesn't state why they took the minigun and ladder out.

I don't think many news helicopters have miniguns attached to them. Unless they got some really crazy car accidents to report.

Personally, I wish that valve had kept in the cutscenes linking all the campaigns together.
I don't really miss the chaingun on no mercy though, as the whole point is that you aren't supposed to fight the horde, just run to the helicopter as fast as you can. A minigun would encourage people to want to stay and fight, which would really destroy the concept of the final horde being an invincible thing you need to avoid if at all possible.

Yeah but there are 30 maps in the game, 10 being tweaked verses maps, notice how on the rooftop finale the back stairwell is missing in verses as it's opened up? I wish they kept the ladder for campaign mode at least
