View Full Version : Anyone else seen these problems?

Playing through l4d on my 360 I've come across these two problems which are quite annoying.

1. The textures change into white and multi-coloured squares on certain things (it has also done this at the menu screen on the stairs on the side of the building, cars and things in the distance)

2. Freezes in the loading screens

These don't happen all of the time but they have happened quite a few times. I've never had any problems with any other game and the disk seems ok, so I was wondering if anyone else has seen these same things?

Cheers

Sorry, can't say that I have.

For the freezing, have you installed the game to your hard drive?

I have tried it but it seems to make the freezing more frequent.

Hmmm...

Is your 360 overheating? Because that's pretty much the only other thing I can think of that could cause a problem like that besides internal damage.

Edit: What kind of freezing is it? (Weird question I know) Is it the screen freezing, then with just a push of the power button the 360 turns off?

I haven't seen either...

I have been having the same problem for awhile now. I even took back the game and exchanged it for another copy and it still did the same thing.

About the kind of freezing, for me, the screen freezes, and I can't go to the dashboard or anything, I HAVE to turn off the console.

And about the objects having weird textures, I have seen those too.

The weird thing is that I can play my other games fine for hours and hours, but even if I play Left 4 Dead first thing, it still freezes, so I don't think its overheating... I have the Arcade version of the 360... Could that be it?

Nope, but I have seen:

People's models disappear for an entire chapter leaving only a gun and healthpack floating around.

When in spectator mode you can only see the room your in, doorways and windows simply lead to blue fog.

Audio cuts out (happened to me) and doesn't come back. Xbox Guide makes usual noises and oyu can hear chatter via voice communication but all game sounds are gone. I had to go back to the dashboard and reboot the game to fix it.

Note: I installed the game to the hard drive on day one, Bungie warns against this though, saying that Halo 3 was made to be played off a disc, so it's possible that has something to do with it?

Ive never seen it freeze but i have seen the weird rainbow textures. This also happened to me when i played TF2 and HL2 on the Xbox. So most likely it has something to do with the source engine

I managed to get some pictures of the graphical mess up this time it happened.

Looks like your 360 has got issues.

L4D has run smooth as glass for me.

Actually, my xbox always freezes, and it's fairly new, so ya.

Yeah, I've had freezing problems and my xbox is only 2 months old, I noticed it started when I first connected to xbox live though, I'm hoping it's just a patch issue, how is the game after this new patch was released?

any HELP with this subject?

Well, the 360 version hasn't received any patches, so that's not the problem.

My guess is that you either have a bad disk, or your Xbox is about to die. Did you install the game to your hard drive?

I ocassionally see the trippy rainbow textures but it's on random objects in the map and the rest looks normal. It's really strange and anytime I mention it is happening everyone says to lay off the acid. =P

If its not the box and its not the disk, the last thing left to check is the internet connection. Some times disconnecting and reconnecting can do some weird stuff in source games, like making the models disappear or fudging up textures so that they a purple and black.

Well the weird rainbow stuff has happened to me when playing offline as well. I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the engine like others have said, because there's nothing wrong with the disk (it's gone pretty much from the box to the xbox), the xbox isn't that old, I have never had any problems with any other game, and like I have said this is happening on and offline. It's the only possible cause really.

Well, I think your Xbox 360's GPU is overheating, which can cause graphical artifacts.

Problems with the GPU can lead to the RRoD...

Just in case that happens and your warranty has expired, watch this (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/293647.html?playlist=featured)!

I'm having the same freezing problems and sometimes it will restart the whole game too, playing the intro valve and source graphics again. I can sometimes play whole campaigns and other times it won't go past the initial loading screen. Have troubleshooted online and offline with similar results.

I have an arcade that's a few months old and am debating buying a HDD to install the game to HD in hopes of fixing this freezing issue. Any other ideas?

The squares are missing textures, probably white too. Also, I have a problem that the 360 version has such a low fps, so I am never renting it again. It hurts my eyes.

One other thing is that it's a little hard to accurately shoot on the 360... but I'm just used to computer now...

I just checked the pictures you posted and mine aren't as bad as that. Just the odd tire, wall or fork lift that is coloured like that.

When it freezes nothing responds and I have to press the power button to restart the xbox.
