How long is the respawn time for infected?

I know there isn't an actual timer, but what's the average wait time?

A minute or so. Imagine dying on Counter Strike (sorry if you havent played it) the wait depends on when you die and then you're watching for a while. It felt shorter than CSS but that may have been because its so much more fun to watch.

So if you're alive for a while, then die, your respawn time will be shorter?

No, he meant that there is like a 'timer' say, every 4minutes infected will respawn. if you die and the timer happens to be only 10secs away from a fresh respawn, then you're back in the game.
But, if you die just after a spawn time (even if you've been alive 10 mins) you'll have to wait the full 4 mins.

Actually if you die immediately after spawning, (within a few seconds) the director will respawn you quickly.
