After two weeks of trying to get my Logitech headphones to work with L4D, I finally gave up and returned them. I decided to try a pair of Plantronics headset a try based on someone I played L4D with. They work just fine - no more complaints about feedback noise and no more requests to leave the game, except for my lack of skills! :(
Of course they cost $50 versus $20 for the Logitech, but at least they work.

I use plantronics for all of my mic needs. Xbox and Pc. My Xbox Mic is two years old, and works just as good as I bought it. My Pc one sadly was crushed by a chair a year into it's life... Never had the money to replace it...

I've been using platronics for nearly 4 years now. I like them. I think I bought them, because I remember platronics being a great office/pro setting vendor of headsets, for like operators or stuff.
The only issue I have is with the cord tending to wind up on itself, but that's likely an issue with all headsets I assume. My last pair was plugged into the back of my old computer, and the wires split because of the winding up and heat dumping out the back. Continued working for 3 years with split ends of the cord, though. heh. The mic died after I built my new pc and started using the front, so I went out and got the new, near exact model. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8497 842&st=plantronics+headset&lp=1&type=product&cp=1& id=1186004297442 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8497842&st=plantronics+headset&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1186004297442) this but not usb.
Oh, I guess also, if you play any amount of time using the big earmuff types makes your hair flatten on the top part, and look weird around the ears. You look like a real tool. x.x Also, a general headset complaint. I should have put some foresight and purchased an around the back sort of headset, or the crazy one newegg had on sale where it was basically an earbud headset.
