This might be interesting, might not be. Ideas will clash here, but try not to flame and get this locked. This is meant to be kind of a forum game, just something interesting to do.

How it Works
If you owned a country, how would it work? What kind of Government would you have? This can be funny, or serious. I am interested in ideas of how you think government should work.

RULES
NO FLAMING
RESPECT OTHER PERSONS IDEAS
ARGUMENTS MUST BE CIVIL AND NOT FILLED WITH HATE
NO FLAMING
DO NOT FLAME OTHER COUNTRIES

Please guys, I really don't want this locked. I know it's a dangerous subject, but please behave. If someone brings up your country, simply ignore it. I'm sure the poster's post will be removed by a moderator.

Things to remember when making a country:
1. Government
2. Overall goal (To live peacefully, to conquer, etc.)
3. Name (Duh)
4. Where your overall studies would be (In education, weapons, etc.)
5. How you would handle the people (freedoms and rights)
6. Laws

One Again: This is NOT a topic about other people's countries, do NOT make it a topic about other countries. This is about your ideas of how a country should be run.

First off, the Electoral College would be removed. Lobbyists would no longer be tolerated. If an economic meltdown were to occur (like the current one), the only way there would be a bailout is if the companies were put under at least partial government control. Energy would be going over to Nuclear, with ongoing research looking for better, cleaner, and more efficient energy. There would be much tighter restrictions on government aid (welfare). There would be tighter restrictions on who could vote. There would be focus on strengthening the defenses, as well as education.

I would have Regulation and SOME Socialism.
I would regulate everything people needed. Oil, Health care, The Moving Industry, Schooling (college), and Travel.
Also, Health care and Oil would be COMPLETELY government controlled. As in, you were provided the same insurance as everyone else, paid for by the government.

Government leaders would be elected by popular vote. There would be a senate and a house of rep. like there is now. And the president could serve for as long as the people elect him. (New election every 5 years) In order to vote you must have a minimum political IQ. Usually the minimum would be considerably low, mostly to keep the idiots from voting.
Also about the president, every year there would be a chance for the people to kick him out of office and start the election process the following year. It would require a popular vote of more than 55% and reasons for kicking him from office. So if the president was bad, you had a chance to get a new one.

We would put most money into education, health, and energy.
We would have a special plan for when specific economic problems arrive, and we would NOT borrow money from other nations. There would be NO Income Tax. We would put most of that tax on Retail, so instead of the government taking money straight form what you make you would pay it when you bought something.

Completely Freemarket Capitalism in the economic sector, while a more Liberal approach to the social sector. So gay-marriage rights, pro-choice abortion, no Affirmative Action however. Many Nuclear Power plants, probably decent solar energy too. We would recycle just about everything. Freedom of Religion, Death Penalty, low taxes, near isolationism with foreign trade only with the top guns, very strong defense with much of Gov't spending going towards military. Would have our own Area 51 with all kinds of Top Secret shit. Would hopefully lead the way in Scientific Advancement, Worlds leading technology producer, Innovator. Strong military, but used carefully, so basically Walk Softly but Carry a Big Stick(or two Big Sticks har har har =P) That's all I can think of right now.
