Do they lay where they fell, nothing but a corpse?
Or do they quickly rot away, vanishing in mere seconds leaving nothing but a bit of gore where they fell?

I think they fall down with rag dolls. Then when your running away to the next checkpoint they just dissapear.

what im wondering is if you were to kill a horde of zombies leaving a pile of bodies.. and then just stood there for 5 min would they vanish, or do they stay there until they are out of visual range and then vanish...frog, squerl ?

Can't really work if there are like 100 bodies all over the place, especially if they all are in ragdoll mode. It really would bring down your performance, but yeah, you can always hope that it works. Always love the looks when you see the destruction you have done, bodies, shells and blood all over the place.

They go to rabid zombie heaven, a place full of unarmed innocent bystanders with no where to run =)

i think it all depends on the options u pick. like when i play cs:s i go to the advanced options and higher the multi-player decal limit to 9999999999.00000000 the bullets and blood stay around for as long as possible

I remember squerl asking this question when we were playing and Mike being happy that we didn't notice. Basically, there will be a set number of corpses able to be on the ground and when that number is reached each death will cause a previous body to fade. It worked well and I never saw a body disappear.

Sounds like the logical thing to do considering how much (PC) resources it would take to continuously calculate and recalculate rag-doll physics for each and every dead body if they didn't disappear.

sounds fantastic. i knew there was no way they could stay forever. i just wondered if it was like most games where they vanished over time. im glad its not as its really silly to be looking at a body only to have it magically vanish before your eyes.

Where do rabid zombies go when they die?

Man, so many good potential jokes can be derived from that sentence...

or maybe they stay there forever so even when u start a new campaign/map the dead zombies from the previous game are there, eventually filling the entire map with dead infected....huhuuuuuu!

hooray for zombies

when rabid zombies die, their bodies decompose into the earth, then it provides nutrients to the world and eventually they are reborn as a tree (guuueeeesss that reference!)

As many as 40 zombies on the screen at once= lots and lots of ragdolls= dead framerate. There had better be some kind of rabid-zombie-corpse-disposal system.

now if there are so many zombie deaths, wouldnt there be a huge pile of zombies that elevates off the ground, sorta like a small mountain that u have to climb over?

I believe that theres a set number of ragdolls that can be in the game at a certain point, so it will take the last corpse and use its slot in the game to spawn another zombie, so on and so forth.

could always play the lion king level in kingdom hearts 2. the shadows... kind of look like zombies, if you were half blind and deaf or something.

How about you wait to find out, instead of anticipating it THIS much, causing you to think too hard about every little factorial detail now.

That's not one of them.

I'm going in a coffin when i die. And my guess is that eventually when all the infected have died from starvation, and only the human survivors are left, the clean up will begin. The bodies will the most likely be burned.

But for the sake of the question. It will be like frogopus said.
